Hice este dibujo-collage de Julien Baker. Amo su música. Sus letras y vulnerabilidad me ayudaron un montón mientras estaba lidiando con mi salud mental. Estaba trabajando en terapia muchas cosas respecto a mis traumas y ansiedad, mientras iba a la iglesia con la esperanza de encontrar sanidad en una institución; ocultando mi identidad queer de las otras personas, y cuestionando todo sobre mi fe. Cuando les dije a mis amigos de la iglesia que soy lesbiane y no binarie, de pronto un montón de personas desaparecieron (algunos se quedaron de todas formas, y lo aceptaron). En ese momento empecé a escuchar un montón la música de Julien, y me ayudó a entender que soy amade sin importar cuál sea mi identidad, y que Dios no me odia. Ya no veo a la iglesia como un lugar seguro, pero empecé a construir amistades y relaciones por fuera de ese espacio y estoy agradecide de haber encontrado libertad y un sentido de comunidad en estos lugares, sin importar cuáles sean las creencias de mis amigues.

I made this drawing and collage of Julien Baker. I love her music. Her lyrics and her vulnerability helped me so much while I was going through a lot about my mental health; I was dealing with anxiety and trauma while going to church, ‘hiding my queerness’ from others and questioning everything about my faith and identity. When I came out to my friends at church, it seemed like almost everyone disappeared. I started listening a lot to Julien’s music during that time and it helped me to understand that I am loved no matter what, that God doesn’t hate me for being non binary and lesbian. I no longer see church as a safe space, but I started building friendships and relationships outside of that place and I am thankful that I found freedom and a sense of community in those spaces, regardless of what deity my friends believe in.
