Hei! Do you have any advice for a gym newbie? I just finished weeks of physical therapy & got the advice to start working out so my back doesn't get bad again (esp when uni starts again & i'll be back to sitting around for like 8h/day). I don't know much about gym atmosphere, i just know *those kind* of "people who go to the gym" (which is not necessarily accurate rep, i know!) I'm a trans guy, too & already had top surgery but in my mind a gym is Cis Space and i'm insecure abt how to approach
I totally understand where you're coming from, the gym can be such an intimidating place! First, try to find a gym on the more welcoming side if at all possible. that always helps my ease of mind. I also try do stuff like warming up and stretching at home, just to minimize my time in the actual gym on days I'm feeling less confident. And I try to pick times that generally have fewer people. Honestly though, just try to ignore the people around you - chances are, they're doing the same thing! Bring some music, have a plan for what you want to do when you get there, and then go in and try to put all your focus into your workout and not into the people at the gym. πͺπ»

Wanting to improve your grip and forearm strength? Try doing plate pinch and holds. Doesnβt have to be heavy or big weight just pinch a plate and hold as long as you can. Itβs a lot harder than you may think. You can do a smaller lighter plate in each hand or one bigger plate in both hands. Try 4 sets holding as long as you can with a minute rest between. Build that sticky grip up to Spiderman level and feel the burn!! **watch your toes in case it slips.
