reflecting on the tumblr experience and how I could not have this blog, with the associated community, on any other platform, I don't think? like, having replies open only to people who have followed longer than two weeks means things are somewhat curated in terms of like... if you comment on my posts, you probably have some idea what we do here and how I talk about stuff, and you're here on purpose. I can be confident no one is here because The Evil Engagement Algorithm put my post in front of them in order to make them angry. NOT SO ON THE OTHER SOCIAL MEDIA SITES.

I would never blog where strangers could see me on an algorithm site. I hang out and lurk on FB semi-regularly, but have my profile entirely locked down to friends only and do not participate in public discussions or posts, bc I have seen how the algorithm renders those posts/discussions worse than useless in terms of everything being full of fucking Conflict Bots and Engagement Bait, and I have seen people on other platforms (fb, insta, tiktok etc) trying to talk about some of the stuff I talk about, and they are INUNDATED with mocking and bigoted nastygrams, all the time, fucking CONSTANTLY. NASTYGRAMS FOR DAYS! it is so unsafe. like its so fucking bad for people. it is a relationally unsafe virtual space in which everyone is made to feel On Edge/In Danger constantly, on purpose. you could not get me to talk vulnerably there for love or money. (but potentially for healthcare, I fear)

every time I get somewhat bummed that tumblr alone cannot meet my autistic extrovert need of having Several Pleasant Interactions With Strangers Per Day, I imagine trying to buy soup at the machine gun store and I'm like never mind. this is fine actually.
