Hi all :-) I've always found poll tournament blogs really fun, and I wanted to run one for something I really like--generic trainer classes in Pokemon games! This blog will run tournament brackets for each game in the main series, as well as side games with unique trainer class designs, starting from Generation I.
What is a "generic" trainer class? Generic trainer class is being defined here as a trainer class (i.e. the title that comes before a trainer's name in battle) that applies to multiple NPCs who share an identical design. Trainer classes that apply to multiple characters who all have unique designs (ex. "Team Plasma") or apply to only a single character (ex. "Photographer", "Elder") are not considered generic. Reoccurring classes will have entries for every generation they appear, unless they explicitly reuse identical assets between games (ex. Male swimmers use identical art and model between XY and ORAS, so that design will only be present in the XY tournament) or reuse a very specific design with no notable differences (ex. the ORAS PokéManiac is a faithful recreation of the RSE design, so it will be grouped with the original design in the RSE tournament).
Each poll will run for 3 days, save for the final battle of each tournament, which will run for a full week. Match-ups are decided randomly, with the exception of variations of the same class (ex. male and female swimmers), who will always face each other in their first match-up.
