Track O'Lantern

I use anonymous x-rays blended with hand painted imagery to create works on paper and works that are transilluminated.  My work transforms real images of injury (actualy X-rays, CT's, MRI's, Angiograms, Doppler and Pet scans) into new scenes of healing, hope, acceptance or even a new outcome.  The films I use are submitted to me in my work as a medical illustrator and as such are part of a patient's medical history in order to create medically accurate images.  But my fine artwork is the opposite: I put aside clinical facts so the once diagnostic images become emotional Rorschach splotch tests.  They are my meditations on a patient's recovery.

With a pumpkin on display at the Children's Museum of Winston-Salem, I knew I'd be delving into the worlds of literature and imagination. This Jules Verne / "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" piece is a playful use of the carved medium, turning half of my pumpkin into a tiny world for the Museum guests to get lost in. I like my work to tell a story, and for that story to carry on well beyond viewing the work.

By surface definition, Kleur is a boutique where you will find an eclectic mix of  curated, quality miscellany for the home and self, both handcrafted and found. Below the surface, KLEUR is a community hive for curiosity, conversation, and education.

Reynolda House Museum of American Art displays a premiere collection of American art ranging from the colonial period to the present. Built in 1917 by Katharine Smith Reynolds and her husband R. J. Reynolds, founder of the R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, the house originally occupied the center of a 1,067-acre estate. It opened to the public as an institution dedicated to the arts and education in 1965, and as an art museum in 1967. The house holds one of the country's finest collections of American paintings. It is located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Currently Zac exhibits new work monthly as a collective member at Delurk Gallery in downtown Winston-Salem, where he also serves on both the Operations and Exhibitions Committees. In addition to his work within the collective, he also serves on the board for Art Nouveau Winston-Salem, instructs mixed-media painting techniques and abstract painting courses/workshops at the Sawtooth School for Visual Arts, and works on creative projects as a freelance artist, designer, and consultant.

Whether  working photographically or three dimensionally, Katie Chasteen’s work  explores our direct yet elusive relationship with the natural world and our  place in it. She currently lives in Winston-Salem, NC with her husband, Zac  Trainor, and her two dashing cats.

I am a  local artist who specializes in creative photography. I tend to lean toward  the more traditional black and white photography. You can see some of my work  on FB.

Ezra Noble is a medium-sized bird native to Winston-Salem who is drawn to shiny  and half-buried objects. A predominantly solitary creature, he can sometimes  be found sitting transfixed by things like textures, bright colors and the  play of light on the leaves. He uses small tools: screenprinting, rock and  roll music, word-like sounds.
