So, I’m taking my leave of this fandom (HL, ex-HL, Rupert) for a ton or personal and some “professional” reasons…
At heart, here’s what I’d like to say: Homeland, from where we all came, is not healthy - cosmically (though I’m not actually that kind of girl, but it seems to fit), psychologically, emotionally, or fandomly (is that a word?). There’s no getting out with HL. It’ll always, always disappoint, break your heart, and mess you up. Gansa takes pleasure in it. It’ll always make you want to stab your eyes out. it’s been that way since the beginning, really.
Whether you’re rooting for Carrie as you go to sleep at night imagining a happy ending or a better leather jacket or whatever, or dreaming of Quinn on a beach with Astrid or Carrie or Julia - don’t give these guys the credit of your attention. This season is legitimately an abject humiliation of Carrie for which we’ve seen before.
As a feminist I say this: Again, really? It’s horrifying that we hang around for it. I don’t even like Carrie very much but if there was a protest against a showrunner’s treatment of her, I’d show up. it’s absurdlly sadistic treatment.
Seriously, is there anything, anything we haven’t seen before: bad mom drowning-your-baby, honey trapping mom with Aayan, bad mom with SWAT moving in I (S6), honey trapping with a bad guy II-III (I couldn’t be bothered to count the Brody transgressions I), bad mom with SWAT moving in II (S7), bad American working for the Russians (Allison, Dante), and Saul forever, constantly judging Carrie, always. LEGIT, IT’S ALL BEEN DONE BEFORE.
This show is authentically run by dudes who jack off to a bipolar girl who fucks and fucks up and fucks and fucks up and fucks and fucks up and fucks. It’s SUPER clear.
They don’t care about character development and will never did. They’re not capable.
Tens of thousands of tweets from super-smart women (I’m pretty sure we’re up to those numbers) and a protest in THR later - it’s clear that Gansa, et al don’t care about our pleas to explain this clusterfuck. And know, please know, that this is NOT how most shows are run. Most showrunners give a shit. Much larger and better shows than Homeland give a fuck about their fans and respond. I’ve done the research.
I credit the tons of girls on Twitter - friends and foes alike - for getting there long before me. But on this Martin Luther King’s death date when he read this speech (tonight as I write this) 04/03/18, Peter Quinn feels particularly close:

In the meantime, MLK, wherever you are, forgive me for reducing you to this RIDICULOUS serial show.
Here’s what matters to me: friendships were formed on the group blogs and the WhatsApp that I created - mostly single handedly - to support HYH and Sara. Funny, we all came together for Quinn. Irony. That legacy will go on.
