   The week ends not in silence, but in well-needed reprieve.  Her presence has never been a burden for him, nor would it ever be.  The nerves of the party slide off his back like old scales; they clatter against the rigid persona he’s abandoned in her presence.  Sitting by her side in the ethereal safety of the Chateau, he leans into her touch, laughs with abandon.  Revels in their shared victory.

   Having a toddler within the tower still surprises him sometimes.  On occasion -- the very rare occasion, he should add -- her presence takes him by surprise, on afternoons when he loses himself in his studies.  Everything fades away then, until a giggle brings him back to reality.  Back to her.

He hears her faintly before she’s brushing against his ankle, reaching towards him with a giggle.  After a surprised blink, Yussa smiles -- slow and soft, fond.
