@nick_knight here. It's day 1 of my punk themed Instagram takeover. In 2012, I interviewed Sheila Rock as part of @SHOWstudio’s Punk: Photography project and she told me how this famous shot of Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren’s Sex boutique from 1974 came to be. Rock was shooting Sex’s famous shop assistant, Jordan, outside the shop when a passerby stopped to stare at her striking appearance. Rock captured the moment and the contrast in attitude and style between the two figures. It's such a wonderful image. It's @Nick_Knight here. Day 1 of my punk-themed Instagram take-over. Ku Khan took this photograph of two punk girls in 1977 and it’s one of my favourite images from the era. Khan told me he often went to see the Sex Pistols and other bands around Notting Hill. He bought a Balcar flash and stood at the entrance to the theatre with his camera asking people to pose in front of the wall as they came in. One girl has the other on a leash, and there is something so compelling about their sense of style and innate attitude.
