Today I am posting an older picture. In fact, this was one of the first macro shots I took with my TG-6 a few years ago. This pokemon-like creature is not a catterpillar as I initially thought, but a sawfly larva of the argidae family. The picture was taken in the amazing island of Koh Phangan, Thailand and it is an unedited, straight out of camera jpeg.

And there it was, a St Andrews Cross Spider that happened to weave it's webb just outside our tent in Phu Langka, Phayao, Thailand. This is one of my favoutite orb weavers, due to its stripes of yellow, white and black in their abdomen. They are relatively easy to spot thanks to the white cross they weave on their web to deter birds from flying through accidentaly.

I've photographed these spiders before and although I get the best results using a macro lens with flash and diffuser attached to the camera, it gets really tricky to get close enough without the diffuser touching the net or the surrounding branches. However, with the TG-6 or TG-7 you can easily get just a couple of cm from the spider and take the shot.

I've read that when they feel threatened, these spiders vibrate to make it harder for the potwntial predator to have a clear shot at them. They might feel fairly confident and safe in front of the camera then because everytime I go close, they remained motionless in the center of the web.

This trip up the north of Thailand, doesn't stop giving me 'bug surprises'. In our last guesthouse I found some "interesting ants" but didn't give them much thought. It was just later when I took out my TG-7 out of my pocket and pointed at them that I noticed the hooks on their thorax and betwren their thorax and abdomen.

They turned out to be polyharchis armata, not that I know much of ants, but I know that these are a species of fish hook ants new to me. Those hooks are a deterrent for predators. Just look at them, who would like to eat something that spicky?!

This early morning I found a moth completely still on a wooden chair. Perfect opportunity to do a focus stacking.

The focus stacking is done in camera, which keeps things simple. I took this picture hand held without a tripod. I just rested my hand on the chair where the moth was resting and held my breath. These photos are the unedited jpeg that the Tg-7 produced after the stacking.

I've found this friend by the parking lot. I love taking pictures of frogs and toads. Sometimes, they try to get away when they see you, but other times they freeze and that's the perfect moment to take a shot. The rainy season has come to an end in Thailand so this might be the last one I see for a while.

Today we found this hidden gem called Cool Cafe & Homestay, in the northern province of Phrae. There wasn't a lot of variety in the menu, but the steaks we had were great. The place was located by a small stream and it was absolutely stunning. We were the only customers and spent quite a while taking pictures of the place.

All of these picturea were taken with my Om System TG-7 straight out of camera (unedited).
