Just about your OC's post. I do agree (because hey, it's fiction, it isn't real, and nobody should EVER be made to feel bad about something that makes them happy), but the 'stereotype' of mary-sue etc exists because most of them ARE self-insert, boring, samey, Bella Swan type characters that are only entertaining to the author. And hey, that's okay. But the stereotype simply exists because it is actually true. And that's okay also.
I donât know where youâve been looking, but the majority of OCs Iâve seen are not mary-sues. But to know if a character is a self-insert, then you have to know the mun very well. Or they outright tell you in some cases. And thatâs okay because some people donât have the creativity to make one.
Personally, I donât think this stereotype is true for more than half of OCs Iâve seen. But true or not, donât judge.
I know none of this probably didnât mean to be insulting, but be careful with your choice of words. Calling a character âboringâ or âsameyâ is extremely insulting unless thatâs how they were intended to be.
hey! if ur ever looking for information on my character (whether i havenât finished/uploaded my stats or bio pages or itâs just information youâd like to know) you can always 100% shoot me a message asking about anything! if you need something cleared up about my muse, ask me. if you wanna learn more about my muse, ask me. if something is confusing you or you just want to know more - ask me! iâm always available to answer questions about my muse because the odds are iâm probably still figuring them out. no matter how long iâve had them for, thereâs always room for character development and finding out more about them. there are some things even i havenât figured out about my muse, so always feel free to ask me if you wanna know anything.

âWow. Our definitions of fun     are really different. Then again,     Iâm not a detective.â
âTheres also a thing where I make                 the dead bodies, but weâll disregard that.â
âCould care less about who actually kills the people, as long as it gets me a good paying wage. Iâve got two properties to pay for and a family to feed.â He shrugs nonchalantly, like it would be no deal if he didnât have the money.
âBut letâs be truly honest. Once theyâre dead itâs not fun anymore. Unless you have necrophilia--â
it was really fun when I did the challenge few months ago so I decided to do it again, this time with my own palettes :)
Iâll do my best but I probably wonât be able to do everything
I donât know what I have to draw. So maybe you can help me. Select the character from fandom which I mentioned in my tags and Iâll draw it. My ask box is open. ^-^

âWell, that sucks the fun out of everything,       but we could always find out who can fly         the highest && the fastest without killing each other.
âIâm not a very fun person, Iâll be honest. Thatâs just how investigators are.
                     âAll serious, no fun.â
âIâd be up for that much. Iâm good with anything that has to do with flying. Thatâs fun. Staring at dead bodies? Not sâmuch.â
âIs that a challenge,      Because it might be my wings wrecking        you.â
âIâd personally prefer not to find out. Though I do think my wings are rather strong for my size.â
@oriturlux
âOld, but extremely small with a childish face.â
âBut my wings could still wreck you.â

âIf only theyâd look closer.â âThereâs so much more to me.â âIâve never been so insulted!â âThe law is wrong.â âI hate being forced into this!â âI just want to make sure youâre taken care of.â âIâve never had any real friends.â âI am in desperate need of your wisdom.â âDonât worry, everything will be fine.â âI canât take it anymore!" "Calm yourself.â âI canât stay here and have my life lived for me.â âI want to thank you for stopping that man.â âThis your first time in the market place, huh?â âCome on, this way.â âYouâre not free to make your own choices.â âSometimes you feel so trapped.â âDo you trust me?â âWe just keep running into you, donât we?â âSo, how did it go?â âI didnât even know his name.â âI must have sounded so stupid.â âDonât. Touch. Anything.â âAre you crazy?â âDid you wake me up?â âSuch a thing would be greater than all the treasures and all the riches in the whole world.â âIâll do it. Iâll set you free.â âStrong as ten, regular men - definitely.â âIâm an excellent judge of character.â âI am not a prize to be won!" "I think itâs time to say goodbye.â âTell herâŚthe truth!" "A woman appreciates a man that can make her laugh.â âAll joking aside, you really ought to be yourself.â âI do not want to see you.â âPlease, Princess! Give me a chance.â âWait, wait. Do I know you?â âGo jump off a balcony!â âI can show you the world.â âWhen did you last let your heart decide?â âI can open your eyes.â âA new fantastic point of view.â âNo-one to tell us no, or where to go.â âA whole new world, a hundred thousands things to see.â âIâm like a shooting star, Iâve come so far.â âLet me share this whole new world with you.â âWhy did you lie to me?â âGoodnight, my handsome prince.â âWhat am I doing?â âGroup hug, group hug!â âIâm free!â
The birdman groans and shuffles through some papers on a table in the corner of a cafe. The papers were for several different cases he had to choose from. He didnât want to any of them. They were all so simple to figure out... Why did they need him for half of these cases?
He puts the papers away in the order he would do them in, hardest to easiest. The harder cases were typically the most urgent.
Freedom takes a sip of his coffee and looks at his son sitting across from him. âWhat kind of sad life do I lead?â

He felt bad for Wren, the Atlantean really seemed to want to be friends with Civil but was making up his mind that it wouldnât happen. âIâm sure itâll all turn out if heâs given enough time. Civilâs a really nice and caring guy, but he lets his shyness get in the way of that and stops thinking about the other person. Once he remembers that youâre a person too Iâm positive heâll be friends with you.â
As Freedom went over everything Isaac had asked, the researcher made himself comfortable to sit and listen. The crystals sounded like an interesting part of Atlantisâ culture and was excited when Wren passed him his crystal to look at. It had a soft blue glow and he could only imagine the significance of these stones to the people here.
There did seem to be an abundance of water in the area, making it reasonable that the dietâs staples would be fish. He had to wonder if it was leaking in somewhere from the ocean, since they did have dive below it to reach Atlantis. âI see, so I take it the forests arenât very safe. Or is it that the few bridges that are available are unable to handle heavy traffic?â
When Wren spoke of Kit Isaac soaked up everything. He really was curious about Wrenâs and Kitâs species. Since they lived underground it made little sense for a humanoid bird species to evolve, but much of the vegetation had been different from what Isaac knew of. Was the local fauna the same?
âYeah, I bet having his wings on his arms makes things difficult for him at times.â But, were they like a batâs and left only the thumb free, or did he have proper human hands? âI hope things turn out well for him, itâd be a shame if his life is always going to be difficult.â
Freedom tried to convince himself that Civil would eventually warm up to him. Isaac was his friend, right? So sure he could trust his word. The persistence was what he needed to feel better. It made him smile a bit. All he did to acknowledge Isaac was nod in his direction.
âThe forests are relatively safe.â He shrugged. âWeâve just had no way of getting out of here and we didnât need the bridges unless we needed to hunt in this area, which is very rare. But the most that the bridges can handle are a few people at a time. Theyâre quite long and the material is old-- you could imagine. Theyâve only been changed a couple times from the centuries Iâve lived here.â They could break. But Free knew that they were quite durable. They could carry at least the group across.
Wren was getting quite upset talking about Kit in such a negative way. If he was always going to be like this, it could affect Kit. He needed more positivity in his life. âHeâs slowly figuring things out. It would help if we had his father around. He died before the boy was even born. One day he said he would go out into this very forest to hunt and never returned. We figured he died after days of searching.â Freedom sighed.
He lied down on his leaves and closed his eyes. He would not sleep that night. âIâve made it this far; almost two thousand years. I might as well keep on going.â
Somehow he needed to distract himself. He was interested in Isaacâs world and if it were the same as he remembered. There was barely anything to remember at all except traces of memories, sketches and notes he had. Freedom busied his hands by stroking the feathers on the back of his wings and asked, âSo what about your world? Tell me what itâs like.â

âHeh, heh,â Isaac laughed sheepishly. âLots of the crew says the same about me, so we can be bad company together.â It was better than sitting alone at night. Civil was lucky enough to have a few other engineers and scientists who valued what he brought to the table. Isaac was just the guy reading a dusty old book.
âAh, no itâs not like that!â Isaac started waving his hands around to draw Wrenâs attention. âCivilâs practically scared of his own shadow! Why, the first time he saw me he looked like he was going to cry, probably because this big, 6â2â giant came up and started talking to him randomly! Heâll warm up in no time, I assure you!â Or, Isaac hoped that would be the case. Sure Civil had warmed up to him just fine, but would he be able to get used to Wren and his wings.
With his tent set up he unrolled his sleeping bag and lit a lantern to go over the Shepardâs journal again before Wren spoke. âThatâs fine, I have sleeping problems myself, so I donât mind talking for a bit.â
Looking upwards Isaac took a minute to think of a few questions. âWell, what is Atlantean culture like? What kinds of festivals or holidays do you celebrate? What types of foods do you eat during them? What foods do you eat the rest of the time?â
After listening to Wren speak of a bit, Isaac got curious about something else. âDo you mind if I ask about your family? You mentions youâre not like the others, and I also want to hear a little more about your son, if you donât mind.â This was one thing he would have loved to be able to ask people from the past cultures he studied, âwhat is your family like?â Sadly with anthropology that is only something that can be answered through deductions, but you never got a feel for a personâs daily life.
Isaacâs comment didnât make him feel any better. It actually made him feel a bit worse. But they were both bad company so it canceled out in a way, didnât it? Still... Some people have warmed up to Freedom so maybe the same will come to Isaac.
But the hybrid was still doubting that Civil would ever be comfortable around him. He was a scary, unknown being to him with giant wings, claws and a. . . fake tail. Isaac was at least human so it would be easier to get used to him. That made it sound as if Wren was not human at all, however. âIâm not so sure. Weâd have to see how it plays out between us. Itâd be okay if we donât get along I just... would be a bit upset.â Like he already was.
The questions were a good distraction from their previous conversation. Hopefully they wouldnât return to the topic.
âWhatâs the whole culture like? Thatâs such a broad question. I could answer that so many ways. So Iâll answer the others first.
âThere arenât many holidays per say, but we do have a lot of ceremonies. Like when a baby is born, they receive a crystal. All of itâs inhabitants have one.â Freedom picks up his pike and points it over Isaacâs shoulder, making sure not to hit him. Tied by the arrowhead was a necklace with a glowing blue crystal. âThis is what almost all of them look like.â He allows Isaac to take it if he wants or places it down otherwise.
âWe almost always have fish and seafood. Itâs a staple in their diet. Otherwise there are lots of herbs that we get from the surrounding forests. But only some gatherers like me come here now.â
He shrugs. Those were easy enough to answer. But the next question that comes up isnât. He doesnât want to talk about his family... Not if it meant talking about Shadow... Isaac seemed only interested in Kit for now, however. He could explain that much.
âKit, heâs older. He just turned ten recently. His wings are attached to his arms instead of on his back like mine. He just turned ten years old... Kitâs not exactly normal so he has a hard time doing regular, everyday things. Itâs been getting better but I donât know how heâll develop so it could get a lot worse. And he canât fly yet, heâs too young.â

As they all headed to the campfire Isaac saw that Wren was giving Civil ample space as well as making his wings less noticeable. He probably felt bad about scaring him. As much as Isaac wanted to comfort Wren, they really did need to focus on the issue at hand first.
Wrenâs suggestion to leave the machines behind made him âhmmmâ. The Sargent was not going to be happy with that news, but this was for the sake of discovery and they really had no other options. The Sargent would just have to settle with what he got.
Civil looked nervous about giving that news to his superiors, so Isaac leaned over and patted his back.
Wren continued explaining what was and wasnât possible. âYou have a son?â Isaac asked excitedly. He loved kids! Being a father was his dream! âOh, uh, sorry to get off topic.â He cleared his throat before speaking again. âWe wouldnât ask you to carry anyone or anything across. Weâve posed enough of an imposition on you by having you guide us into the city. Right Civil?â He gently elbowed his friend who had gone quiet.
âR-right!â
âAlright, I better get my own tent sent up.â Isaac sighed as he stood. âWren would you mind keeping me company? Bye Civil!â He waved before heading off.
âDonât lose sleep over how Civil was acting. Heâs really shy and fearful by nature. When the expedition started I couldnât even get a word out of him. Iâm sure heâll warm up to you with enough time.â The researcher explained as he headed over to the area where Wren had made his bed. Since the other crew members were less welcoming of Isaac, he figured that camping with Wren was the best option.
Wren avidly waited for a reply, wondering if what he said was alright. Were the machines used for other things too? He didnât know since the machines were completely foreign to him. He didnât even know what they were called! Perhaps he spoke too soon. Though Isaac seemed alright with this plan. It wasnât like the tools wouldnât be damaged in any way since the only things living in the general vicinity were the Atlanteans and some local animals.
The excitement that was hinted in Isaacâs voice made Freedom smile. âYes, heâs almost a teenager now. Heâs not that young anymore, but heâs still got a long life ahead of him.â That was assuming that Kit would live as long as Freedom.
âHonestly, I wouldnât mind having the machines in the city, but they might frighten and pique too much of an interest in the locals. And it would also take too much time to build a sturdy bridge to carry them over.â A couple months at the least. That gorge was by no means small.
He was glad that they came to a swift conclusion. The sun had set and it was about time to get to sleep. As Wren headed over to his bed he heard Isaacâs request. âI would not mind at all! But most might say Iâm not terribly good company to keep.â There were reasons for that. Reasons he did not like to discuss. He could get quite restless during the night and have a hard time sleeping, so he could wake Isaac up by accident. Wren decided to keep that to himself for now.
The hybrid continued to keep his wings lowered despite Isaac trying to cheer him up. He was both too lazy to keep them up and still feeling a little guilty. âI do hope he becomes more comfortable around me soon. I hate having people be so scared of me just because I have wings and claws-- Itâs not my fault.â Wren sighs, a little upset. Before finding Atlantis, people would think that he was some sort of demon. People were terrified of him and he was terrified of them.
Wren growls to himself and lies down in his small nest of leaves. He shifts many times into different positions. One time he tried curling up, he tried lying on his stomach or on his back again. Nothing seemed comfortable enough to let him sleep.
He sits up after only trying to sleep for a few moments and turns to Isaac. âI may not be able to sleep for a couple of hours. If you have any questions in the meantime, Iâll answer them. Thereâs not much else for us to do.â
