They walked down to the cargo hold of the tramp steamer and watched the silent, swinging figure anchored to a beam in the middle of the overhead.  When the taller man began to undo the straps of the occlusive leather hood, the heavily wrapped figure began to move and mew pitifully.

As her hood was removed, her eyes scrunched up in the bright light that she had not seen since the previous day.  Her wet, greasy hair hung in disarray over her face and the huge ball banded between her teeth was shiny with spittle.  As her eyes adjusted, the tall man dropped the heavy hood to the floor and began to unbuckle the ball gag.  “You know the drill,” he rumbled.  “When I take this out, if you make ANY sound what-so-ever, it goes right back in and no food until tomorrow.  Understand?”

She nodded silently as the ball popped out from her distended jaws.  She slowly worked that jaw, trying to get her mouth to close.  The ball had been in her mouth so long that the gag no longer hurt her jaws, but its removal and the subsequent movement of her mandible caused her excruciating pain.  She remains silent, knowing that the threat of no dinner was made in earnest, having had her supper taken away on a couple of previous occasions. 

As the taller man steadied her usually swaying form, she could feel the warmth of his body through the heavy leather that served as her cocoon, her personal prison, her swaying hell.  But she was glad to feel a human touch, any human touch, as she had no idea how long she had been ensconced as a human pendulum in the darkness.

The shorter man put a straw into a tumbler and held it up to her mouth.  She greedily sucked on the straw, and the thin, tasteless gruel that had become her only joy in life swirled into her stomach.  She could only guess at the diabolical mind that had devised the thick liquid as she hadn’t felt the need to pee or to defecate since the vile, tasteless slurry had become her only sustenance.

As she emptied the tumbler, the straw was pulled from her lips and she licked off the tiny droplet of the gruel left in it’s wake.  “Open,” order the man behind her as he released her body and reached for both the hated gag and the cruel hood.  As he opened her mouth to receive the huge ball, her facial muscles settled into their accustomed grimace and the hurting in her face ceased.  The lack of pain in such a circumstance brought a tear to her eye as she realized for the umpteenth time that she was becoming more comfortable bound than free.

After the gag was replaced, the tall man pulled the heavy hood over her head and she was again plunged into total darkness.  Unable to contain her despair, she began to moan, a low, guttural moan that seemed to emanate from the bottom of her soul.

As the tall man tightened the straps on the hood, resealing her into the fetid darkness, his partner pulled on the straps that had crushed her body underneath the leather capture sack for seemingly eons.  “She must be loosing some weight,” the shorter man said.  “I wonder why?” he chuckled as he began to tighten the multitude of straps that held her body immobile within the heavy leather sack.
