Tried to tip a tumblr blog at 1am and it was such a suspicious transaction it immediately put a full fraud freeze on my account
Fortunately, banks no longer just ask 'did you make that transaction' they want to make sure you weren't scammed into making that transaction and 5mins after their call will give away all your money anyway.
This is an honest to goodness life saving movement and I cannot be happier banks are adopting it
Unfortunately, it meant I had to have the most embarrassing financial call of my life
-
Me: Ah yeah I was just trying to tip a tumblr blog
Cash: right and were you directed there by a Facebook link? An Instagram advert?
Me: no I was just on tumblr...on purpose
-
Caah: and this person asked you for money?
Me: oh no they just had a funny story, which happened to be about money and I thought, "wouldn't it be funny if I tipped them"
-
Me: * covering a reblog by reblog update on the adventures my mutual was having *
Cash: okay I don't think that can actually happen though..
Me: It might not have, but i was happy to tip them just because it was funny
-
Cash: and how well do you think you know this person?
Me: *considers explaining how much I know about a beloved mutual without ever knowing their name or face* ... I have no idea who this person is
I think in the end Cash decided there was no saving me from myself

classic post rant quora phrase
“cigarets are like hamsters: they are fine, until you put it in your mouth and light it on fire. True”
Which are better?
Concepts
Details
No nuance button because I gave up nuance for Lent
CONCEPT FANS DECLARE TOTAL VICTORY! “The votes are in, and the big picture to celebrate is that Concepts are more popular than Details.”
DETAILS FANS REFLECT ON CLOSE RACE! “While we lost, the important thing is their margin is small, only 4.8%. Details are still plenty popular.”
i love when people draw rocky like

It's been years and I still haven't found a single sentence on Wikipedia I like more than this one. and quickly learned how to breakdance. The simple statement. Action, result, reaction. White boy stuns latinos. Quickly. His white ass got there and said I need to have something to keep me from being All the White People, and I'm clearly not a boy of combative strength. Breakdancing bluelinked as the perfect little punctuation, reminding you that it is a rich art and sport, making you consider the sort of undertaking that would be. I like this sentence more than some Beck songs.
i love the phrase "cruel and unusual." not only is what you're doing mean but it's also quite frankly fucking bizarre
i kinda love this response. just try reading my comment in a nicer voice and you'll feel better
Model UN is for a very particular sort of pervert

Bisexuals don’t have straight privilege because bisexual people aren’t straight. To make this argument is to argue that trans men aren’t really men. Why are y’all sooooo desperate to invalidate your own gender just to argue that you have Super Special Baby Boy Oppression. It’s embarrassing
Get out of my notes saying shit like “nuh uh cause male privilege is strictly limited to white cishet wealthy ablebodied business majors with AB negative blood type—“ that is NOT WHAT MALE PRIVILEGE MEANS. You know good and goddamn well that it’s not just the men at the very top who have male privilege. You know that ALL MEN are afforded a degree of privilege over women on the axis of gender. “Privilege” isn’t a dirty word, it’s a fucking tool in your belt you can use to protect your TMA sisters. But some of you are far more interested in bleating about how you Actually Have It Worse For Being A Man. Shut completely up. Go to bat for trans women or die I’m sick of it
I strongly disagree with this. Privilege doesn't care about the ontological truth of who you are; it's a fact about how society treats you. As a bisexual, I think... we actually CAN experience straight privilege in some cases. Like, a bisexual woman married to a man experiences straight privilege. That doesn't make her less bisexual, but it does mean that she can honeymoon anywhere she wants without having fear of being hate crimed. Any way you slice it, that's straight privilege. And look, I get it, if you don't like saying you have straight privilege becasue it isn't true that you're straight. You could say straight-passing privilege, if you prefer. But it's still privilege.
Trans men may or may not experience male privilege based on situation, and a trans man not experiencing male privilege does NOT challenge his identity as a man. Look, an early transition man who doesn't pass as cis is almost never going to experience male privilege. I say almost never because there are edge cases! Recruiters will probably have less bias against his resume for having a male name... but then again, when he shows up to the interview, transphobia / cissexism means he is way less likely to actually get the job compared to a cis male applicant. On the other hand, a trans man who passes as cis probably experiences male privilege in every aspect of his life.
Trans men experience misogony all the fucking time, and I think anyone who denies that is being ridicuolous. The fact that a person experiences misogny doesn't make them a woman, and it would be offensive to claim that a trans man who is talking about the misogyny he experienced is invalidating his gender because misogyny is for women. No, he's just talking about his lived experience. And its the same with male privilege. A trans man saying that he doesn't experience male privilege is NOT invalidating his gender, he's probably right.
So yeah, all men are not afforded a degree of privilege over all women on the axis of gender. You have to actually be percieved as a man for that to work, and as much as I would love for us to live in a world where trans men are all percieved as men, this is not true.
The Martian of course was part of the small but notable genre of movies 'people expend huge amounts of effort to rescue Matt Damon'. In Project Hail Mary we see a foundational entry in the inverse genre 'people expend huge amounts of effort to send Ryan Gosling away forever'. Excited to see where we send Ryan Gosling next.
