this. this is why he should never fucking let himself get complacent because the moment he starts feeling like perhaps things are getting better heâs suddenly in situations that make his hackles rise, all because he let himself lose focus. fucking idiot.
âi- shit, s-sorryâŠâ
itâs a mumble as he stumbles back, out of the path of oncoming traffic. he wants the ground to open and swallow him up, unable to look his âsaviourâ in the eye, heart thundering in his chest as the weight of stares starts crushing him slowly, hands trembling slightly with the urge to run.
From the manner they stumbled over their apology to the reddening of their ears, Tomo could assess that the stranger was feeling the harsh spotlight of embarrassment from his oblivious actions. There were times when the brunette wondered what it would be like to wander through life blissfully unaware of oneâs surroundings or the impact their careless actions could have on those around them.
Unfortunately, probably for the stranger, Tomo was the type of man to always notice his surroundings, especially the parts he felt didnât fit into his idea of how things should be run. At that thought, a scripture surface to mind as if his subconscious was reminding him he didnât have the time or need to stand there and pass final judgement over the stranger. Some days, the brunette longed for such a power.
The world wouldnât know what hit them if that were the case. Instead, heâd use the few minutes until the lights changed to teach this stranger a valuable lesson. âForgive me, must be my old age catching up, but I couldnât quite hear you.â The tall male motioned towards his ears even though the other wasnât look at him. âCare to repeat that and, this time, I suggest you look at me when you speak. Itâs the polite thing to do,â He commented, hands moving to rest in the pockets of his grey tailored suit pants as if he had all the time in the world to wait for the other.
Sleep doesnât relieve my exhaustion anymore.

heâs been feelingâŠjust on the better side of neutral, lately. itâs the only way he can think of to describe it; the buzzing pinpricks of anxiety and paranoia are still present, but where theyâd been fully possessing the majority of his headspace, they were now a dull humming at the back of his mind, prickling at the base of his skull. itâs a relief, and he finds himself wandering without a real destination, just to feel the sun on his face. howâŠodd, to feel soâŠfree, after such a long time. his new headphones grace his head and he lets himself mouth along with the music playing, feet falling into tempo with the beat.
Being labeled a recluse wasnât something that bothered Tomo, in fact, he took great measures to avoid spending too much time surrounded by the public. His overall dislike for how majority of his fellow humans acted left a bad taste in his mouth and felt it easier to steer clear of it. Today; however, was a day he couldnât hide out in his condo or at work. He had an important meeting with his professor and if he missed today it would be another two weeks before it could be rescheduled.
Time was of the essence, which explained his brisk walk as Tomo weaved his way through the mass of pedestrians before coming to a stop once he reached a pedestrian crossing. Glancing up at the traffic light as if it would immediately change so he could cross, but knowing that was hopeless gave his attention to his surroundings while he waited. A boy who looked a few years younger than him and completely absorbed in the music filling his ears was too distracted to stop like the rest of them and stepped off of the sidewalk heading across the road.
Tomo wasnât a hero nor did he seek justice for the weak, but being witness to someoneâs death would definitely make him late for his meeting and that just wouldnât do. Reaching out, the brunette grabbed onto the collar of the strangerâs shirt and stopped them from moving further into oncoming traffic. Pulling them back to the safety of the sidewalk, the brunetteâs face was etched deep with a frown. âSorry to interrupt your concert, but some of us have important engagements to attend and your untimely death will disturb that,â He replied letting go of the otherâs shirt, knowing he could be heard since one of the strangerâs earbuds had fallen out during the exchange.

âGod, you make it sound like weâre secretly dating or something. Nah, but all jokes aside, I canât even express my complete gratitude. The words âthank youâ canât even compare to how I feel, but Iâm going to say it anyways. Thank you, man. I really really appreciate this gesture. I love it. Iâll be sure to wear this during my performances.â And with that, he lunges forward for yet another hug as he attempts to express how thankful he is even if the other wasnât one for affection. That surely didnât stop the pianist. âYou know, jokes on you butâ I played that piece from time to time in between rehearsals when reminiscing time before fame. I think of you sometimes, Tomo Domo.â The last bit spoken in a higher pitched, attempting to sound cutesy with his speech jokingly. His silliness solely leaving him to mask the rush of emotions.
For as long as the pair had known each other, Tomo always wondered why the other male never complained about the lack of affection returned. It wasnât that the brunette didnât think highly of their friendship, quite the opposite in fact, but that didnât mean he was going to express it by yelling out on the roof tops either. However, their differences in how they expressed themselves made for light humor rather than confrontation since they were apart of the same world. Keisuke was just a bit more humble about it than Tomo would ever be. âPerhaps only in my dreams is our forbidden love affair going on,â The librarian teased in a light manner, his lips formed the briefest of smiles reserved only for close companions. He knew he should have braced himself again in preparation for the possibility of receiving another hug, but he was too slow.
Failure to foresee this caught him completely off guard enough to stumble a little when Keisukeâs weight was tossed at him. A small grunt followed by a few pats against his friendâs back was the only response he could muster during the tight embrace. âI was praying that nickname would have been buried and forgotten throughout the years and yet here is is alive and well,â Tomo mumbled dryly, unsure of why the younger male insisted on using it. âYou stopped being cute after you reached puberty, Keisuke.â He didnât mean the statement to sound as harsh as it did, but he wasnât going to explain his words either. Anyone with a decent eyesight could see the young pianist had grown past the awkward adolescent stage and was thriving in adulthood.
âRegardless, Iâm glad that you appreciate the gift. Itâs difficult to shop for someone who already owns the world.â He paused, waiting to be freed from the hug before he began to smooth out his clothes to remove any signs of being disheveled during the embrace. âI request that you play that song for me soon, though, it must be hard for you to imagine a time when your name wasnât as widely known as it is now.â Tomoâs attention when back to the opened small box in his hand which he stuffed the remains of the wrapping paper inside and closed the lid. Slipping the package back into his coat pocket, he planned to dispose of it as soon as a trash bin was located.
âI wanted to congratulate you on your concert in Stockholm, Sweden, by the way. I had plans to fly out and see it in person, but couldnât get away from work in time. I managed to watch it later in the week on television once I was able to settle down and enjoy it,â He mumbled a small shake of his head at the thought of missing such an event. âHonestly, your talent has flourished and it gives me a sense of pride when I see you play. Do you have plans to compose some new songs?â Tomo asked, his gaze moving from his friend to view the darkening streets around them. âI know itâs a bit last minute, but have you eaten?â He added, lifting a hand to check the platinum gold watch that adorned his own wrist. âOr maybe, at least, some time for a nightcap?â

"Greetings ladies, gentlemen, and fellow students, If any of you spend ample amounts of time within the  library at the university then Iâm sure weâve crossed paths. Hopefully it wasnât for anything, but pleasant reasons as I expect all the rules to be followed within the halls of my workplace.â
âOn a lighter note, I just wanted to say that I donât usually agree to participating in student films such as this one, but the proceeds are for a charitable event and I donât mind giving my time when Iâm able to. They told me to speak about myself, but thereâs not too much to say. They told me to âlet my hair down,â unfortunately; I am far from the type to do this. Perhaps Iâll start with the usual jargon.â He gave a brief pause before continuing on.
âIâm Tomo Leon Kurata, a 2nd year theology and philosophy graduate student whoâs studying aboard this semester in Korea. Iâm a mixture of Japanese and British, as if this heavy accent wasnât a dead giveaway; I hail from London,â Pausing for a moment, he shook his head a bit. âMy colleagues say I often act decades older than I am; an old soul, they call me. I can be a bit cold when first meeting someone, but thatâs because Iâm somewhat of a recluse to begin with. Regardless, if you ever need my assistance while in the library donât hesitate to ask. I am always willing to lend a hand to those in need, within reason as I donât like my time wasted. Well, thatâs about all I have to say. Make sure you all donate what you can, thereâs a box going to be set up in the library as one of the locations so at least stop by to do that. Have a good day.â
End recording. Â

shutupvital:
âHey, can you point me to the theology section? Also, got anything about like⊠I dunno, fairytales? Fae and all that?â His words were quiet enough for the likes of the library, but his body language suggested that he wasnât beyond shouting in such a silent space if he saw it fit. There was a moment where Vital openly studied the stranger who had been hard at work reorganizing and re-shelving from lazy students, but it was difficult for him to place if this guy was also a student. Then, as an afterthought, âPlease.â
Never one to do anything in haste, even assist someone, Tomo continued to curiously thumb through the book in his hands that told of Thoreauâs earlier works. Only when a stopping point was reached did he close the book and turn to place it on the shelf next to him before picking up the next tomb that was among the heaping piles on the cart beside him. âSo theology and mythology,â He mumbled, finally looking up from the back cover of the book in his hand when there was a please added to the request. Manners were rare, perhaps even considered dead by most of the society, which explained why he was looked at in a peculiar way whenever he displayed some formalness. âFollow me,â It came out as more of a command than an invite as the brunette placed the book back on his cart and headed further down the aisle before turning left. âDo you already possess a library card with us or will you be a new account?â
