“Oh, I’m sure.” Her words were sarcastic, her voice clearly unimpressed. She found that very hard to believe. “What? Were you held down, physically unable to help them? Or just afraid of losing a few friends?”

“It’s...  Look, it’s hard to explain, okay?  The guys I hang with are brutal, if I speak out against them I’m done.  I can’t afford that right now.”  Tommy looked down, obviously ashamed, and shoved his hands in his pockets.  “I don’t like it, but that’s how it goes.”

a snide smile forms on kay’s lips as he looks the other up and down, as if he’s sizing the male up. “it’s good to know that bullying happens even here.” his tone dry. “no offense or anything but you kinda look like one of the douchebags that would be involved in that sort of uncreative shit.” maybe he was being judgmental and the other wasn’t some stereotypical asshole jock or maybe he was right – only time would tell.

“Yeah, unfortunately it’s kind of unavoidable.”  Tommy shoved his hands in his pockets and sighed, an eyebrow lifting slightly as the other continued to speak.  “Well...  Can’t say that doesn’t sting a little, but least you’re honest, I guess.“

In High School, she had always been the type to try and protect victims of bullying. The fact that people could be so cruel broke her heart. ❛ — You must’ve intervened right? ❜ 

“Yeah...  It was hard to watch.”  Tommy replied with a small nod, his eyes widening slightly when she asked if he had intervened.  “I uh...  I’m gonna be honest here, I didn’t do as much as I should have.”

“That’s actually a lot more relatable than you think.”  Tommy nodded and pursed his lips together.  “Hopefully nothing too bad happened though, right?”

“You and me both.” Hodge muttered. The guys on the football team usually got their kicks by shoving people into lockers and making fun of those who seemed to be lower on the social food chain. And although Hodge hated it and tried his best to protect them, he couldn’t save everyone. “Yeah, well most of them aren’t known for their creativity.”

“And that would be why they spend all of their time hitting people with sticks and not writing or whatever.”  Tommy shrugged and rolled his eyes slightly.  “I just don’t get what’s so satisfying about it?  It just makes them look like assholes and scars freshmen for life.  Nothing about that is fun.”

Coraline wished that she could say that she was surprised but in reality she really wasn’t. She had seen how cruel people could be plenty of times, even at her old school. “ Yeah I noticed that this place is definitely not lacking in the asshole department. “ she stated bluntly. 

“I mean, in their defense they’re not like that all the time.  Just... most of the time.”  Tommy said with a shrug.  He was trying as hard as he could to defend his friends, but ultimately he couldn’t justify what they did.

“Are you really surprised? The people doing it aren’t really the type to be flowing with new ideas.” Of course, Ginny supposed she could be considered a bit of a jock, having been on the soccer team all of high school, but she was a little too poor to ever be popular, instead skating around in the middle of the food chain. “So what? Did you just stand there when you saw it happen?”

“Yeah, I’ll be the first to admit that they’re nowhere near Einstein’s level of intelligence.”  Tommy replied with a small nod as he pursed his lips together.  “I uh...  As shitty as it sounds, I had to.  I didn’t have much of a choice.”
