trying to explain Catholic guilt to non-Jews/Catholics is next to impossibleÂ
Catholic guilt and Jewish guilt are different.
I am convinced the most pressing issue for the Church at this point in time is the ordination of women. Every day we refuse to ordain them we tell women around the world they are inferior and incapable of being the Image of God. Every day we refuse to ordain women we tell men they are superior beings and women are our servants. Every day we refuse to ordain women we actively participate in the âstructures of sinâ that is systemic misogyny and toxic patriarchy. Every day we refuse to ordain women we tell the Holy Spirit to shush.
We donât ordain women because there arenât enough men. We donât ordain women because of a *vocations crisis*. We need to ordain women because they are Godâs Image made real, through baptism they become the anointed, one with Christ.
To refuse a woman is to refuse Christ. To reject women is to reject the Holy Spirit. To deny women is to deny God.
How do we change a frustrating, wayward world? First, go to Confession & change our frustrating, wayward selves.

Mansplaining, for the NYT today. Shhhhhhh.
thereâs no words but you know exactly whats goin on
the article includes the term âmanologueâ which i think is one of the best terms invented this decade
My momâs notes on T.S. Eliotâs âThe Wastelandâ for when she taught high school English.

not to vagueblog or anything but itâs great to see that even lgbt christians spew the âcafeteria catholicâ stuff
like, churches have been wrong. Social teachings and âtheological teachingsâ are not as distinct as you seem to think. Gay people arenât just grandfathered into the wait-til-marriage thing, their desires are considered intrinsically disordered and you canât just make a tiny exception without admitting that there are some messed up teachings if not now then in the past because like it or not, people including bishops and popes considered Jews âgod-killersâ and they took this as part of their theology even if they changed it at vatican II. Just because you and your priest have put it behind you doesnât mean it wasnât central to their belief system before.
âwell, genders of ordained ministers doesnât countââ âsame sex couples are ok but only if they wait until marriageââ âIâm sure the church was never anti-semitic because they never said anything about it at the first vatican council!â
These things are not as perfectly separable as you think. The Church Militant is not the same thing as the Church Triumphant. The fucking southern baptists claim that theyâre the same as the early Christians just like you do. And sure, you can claim that the church has never changed its doctrine, if you adjust the definition of âdoctrineâ every time thereâs a change.
Change is ok. Change is not evil. Humans are brilliant and continually rediscover God.

LGBTA+ Person of Faith Challenge: Day 9
Whatâs the biggest obstacle you face as an LGBTA+ person of faith?
Oh dear.. getting into heavy stuff yet again. Uhmmm Iâm going to go with loneliness and not letting my life be ruled by fear.Â
I am continuously trying to understand and pinpoint where my heart/mind lands on the idea of being in a relationship, and how I am meant to relate and interact with people. I know Iâm not the only one who goes back and forth between being concerned about if I am being influenced by internalized homophobia or temptations/being misled. I will say that overall, I have gotten to be a lot more comfortable with both believing I have a place in the church, as well as with how different aspects of myself are outwardly expressed. It wasnât always easy to feel like I could be a part of both communities, but I donât think I would feel whole if I didnât allow myself to be honest about who I am, and with those around me as well. Whether it has been through seeking out places where I can be myself, or creating niches where I can be open with others like me, truthfulness and self expression have helped bring peace of mind and heart into my life. Also if nothing else I know that my sexuality has changed the way I relate to and interact with people, and I am trying to embrace that in a positive way so that regardless of the end results, the relationships I build with the people in my life are as authentic and beneficial as possible. I think/hope that as long as I approaching things from that perspective things will fall into place the way they are meant to.Â

Since Archbishop Myers of Newark sent out a memo to all his priests to bar from Communion anyone who supports marriage equality, shouldnât he also bar from Communion other âdissidents,â like those who support the death penalty, those who reject immigration rights, those who donât think health care is a fundamental human right? What about barring those who donât feed the hungry by supporting budget cuts to SNAP, or barring those who supported and still support these unjust wars? âCafeteria Catholicâ is an awful term thrown around by those insecure people so as to feel better about their own 'dissentâ from the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The churchâs first duty is not to hand down condemnations or anathemas, but to proclaim Godâs mercy, to call to conversion, and to lead all men and women to salvation in the Lord.
