Capcom Wants to Bring More Titles to the Nintendo Switch
Capcom CEO Kenzo Tsujimoto stated in an interview that the Switch was much more successful than he expected and that it is a very desirable system for programmers. Because of this, Tsujimoto says that the Switch will be receiving games that haven’t made it onto Nintendo consoles in the past.
Capcom and Nintendo have had a very up-and-down relationship over the years, with Capcom picking and choosing which Nintendo consoles they will support. After publishing 80 games for the NES and SNES, Capcom decided that the Playstation was the better bet and only published 3 games for the N64. The Gamecube and Wii fared much better with 52 titles combined, but the Wii U only had 8 Capcom published games in comparison. As a true 3rd party developer, Capcom has the luxury of waiting for a console to sell well before deciding to support it. The thriving Switch is receiving support from major developers who passed on the Wii U, and that will be critical in filling the gap until the next major Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon games are released.
Capcom has already announced several ports and collections coming to the Switch, but it seems Capcom’s CEO has much more planned for the future. Notable Capcom franchises include Street Fighter, Dino Crisis, Onimusha, Okami, Devil May Cry, Monster Hunter, Dead Rising, Breath of Fire, Ace Attorney, Marvel vs Capcom, and Mega Man (which has been dormant until the recent announcement of Mega Man 11)
