When they get older and get tired of rebelling against societal norms, when they’re ready to get a corporate job they can cut their hair, stop tanning, put on a suit and be treated like human beings deserving of respect. We don’t have that privilege as black people. I can’t take off my blackness and be treated like a human being. They can. That is where the problem lies. At this point this isn’t about culture. My fashion and hairstyle may be part of my culture. My skin color and hair texture are more than culture. This is about wearing a race as a costume and taking it off when u get ready. It’s about privilege over an oppressed group of people. It’s about us being condemned for who we naturally are and them being praised for who they pretend to be.
