“they’re two kids with traumas and serious problems, the only thing that changes is how they choose to deal with it” -> means if ppl sympathize with one then they should be able to sympathize with both. i can see what ure trying to say here but sympathizing is NOT liking……. u can sympathize with a character and still don’t like them

like yeah they have similarities in this aspect (and someone else has also mentioned how they’re both dealing with traumas in a different way) BUT… outside of that, their own personalities are also terribly different…….. which makes sense that they attract different types of fans

i personally wasn’t even a big fan of ciel in the anime, i love him from the manga, where he is shown to be this little genius who comes up with mindblowing plots like how blue house can win the cricket tournament, how to escape the green witch village, or the whole musical hall idol battle thing. he is insanely smart and a little bit sick in the head

someone who is into this ciel will not be into alois bc uhhh he doesn’t display this level of intelligence ? this is one example. someone who is into the whole grumpy angry kitten thing will also be into ciel but not into alois. basically they have lots of different personality traits and saying u gotta like one if u like the other feels like simplifying their characters and reducing them to trauma victims instead of two wholly different characters who happen to share similar background

Alois and Ciel are very different indeed, my intention was not to criticize anyone who likes or dislikes them, just another 100% ironic post, it's quite common around here haha.

I like this similarity that exists on the outside, you know? Two attentive children, this lord and butler thing... although "yes my lord" is much more incredible than "yes your highness", I don't know how to spell it lol I don't know English, sorry)
