By the time they finished showering, the night time announcement had been and gone. With it, the cafeteria was shut until morning, leaving them unable to go there to acquire a late dinner. The storage room offered some sustenance, mostly snacks and canned goods, but Byakuya had no need to go out again. Not when he already had his own stock of foods in his room.

Energy bars. Jerky. Various dried fruits and nuts. All in case he needed to make a prolonged stay in his room, such as when Genocider Syo fronted. Byakuya served the meal on paper plates, one for him, one for Touko. This would tide them over until tomorrow. With Touko supposedly ill, he would need to bring back breakfast for the both of them in the morning. He could prepare cereal, and some oranges or berries as well. The less time he spent outside of this room in this body, the better.

Though, that would involve spending more time in close proximity with Touko.

“I’ve never had a midnight picnic date with anyone else before,” remarked Touko as he placed the plates onto his room’s round table. Unfortunately, as he only had one set of clean pyjamas available, he was in just an oversized top while she wore matching trousers and one of his day shirts.

Byakuya threw her a frosty look. Touko’s smile burned his eyes. She licked her lips disgustingly, saliva giving the illusion of her lower face melting.

“Don’t do vile things with my mouth,” he said, cringing. He pointed to the plate furthest from him. “This isn’t a date. Eat, and speak no more.”

“Why do you bother with long hair?” he asked.

“It’s better than having it short.” The comb caught again. Jerked his head a bit. “T-Too much maintenance…”

“As opposed to longer hair?”

“Yes. If I was to keep my hair short, I would have to regularly cut it. And I can’t stand the sound of…”

Byakuya realised. “Scissors.”

While Byakuya’s bathroom was stocked adequately for himself, it lacked certain items to properly accommodate Touko. Specifically, her body. Her longer hair would benefit from coconut oil, as well as required a wide toothed comb for detangling. Then there was the matter of him possessing only one kind of shampoo, conditioner and body wash. The more distinct they kept their selves, the better. Most of the time, the odour of wet books pervaded the air around her. But if he was going to be in her body for an unknown amount of time, he would rather not stink or have them share the same scent.

Fortunately, the school’s storage room offered a small range of products, so Byakuya decided to pick up some different stock before tending to their hygiene.

“You are to stay here and not touch anything,” he said, standing by the door. “Do not answer the door to anyone. I will unlock it on my return.”

While he wasn’t keen on leaving her alone in his bedroom, it was safer than bringing her with him. She couldn’t imitate him for more than a few seconds before blushing and mumbling. Not only did she risk revealing their secret, but she would distract him and slow him down.

Byakuya couldn’t make any sense of it. If he had been taken to a laboratory where a scientist, surgeon or butcher switched his brain with Touko’s, he might have acknowledged there was a non-zero chance of this being able to happen. According to Monobear, though, all it had done was tie some string around Touko’s diary, and when he touched it at the same time as Touko, that was enough to transfer their minds to the other’s body. There had to be more to what occurred than what Monobear let on, but shortly after it explained to them what happened, it disappeared.

Now, Byakuya and Touko were sheltering in his bedroom, trying to figure out how to reverse their bodyswap. Byakuya couldn’t spend the rest of his life in a scrawny body like this one while Touko inhabited his perfect one. A low hum buzzed behind his teeth as he inspected the diary again. Technically, they were Touko’s teeth, and the sound he made was created by her vocal cords. And it was her hands that turned over the diary, with her stubby, uneven fingernails. He was merely in control, for now.
