So he used other forms of affection with Donnie. Praising him, listening to his ramblings, but not touching him without permission.

It's pokemon rules down there; eye contact means Fight Time.

They constantly quote memes and vines at each other, or even speak with turtle sounds. When Leo drinks the milk and puts back an empty carton, Donnie beans him in the head with the carton. Donnie makes a pun, there's a distant sound of katanas being unsheathed. Mikey tackles his brothers by getting a running start, jumping, and then going into his shell to use the increased mass/density/whatever to knock his brother to the ground (this is either an attack or a greeting depending on the situation). Tickle fights happen and Mikey always loses. Leo and Raph sometimes fight over who gets to use the TV. Every other day someone gets the remotes mixed up, even though they have labels on the back ("That's the DVD player remote." "Nuh-uh, it's the TV remote." "Check the back." ". . ." "Don't question me ever again.")

Troublemakers, all of them. They’d wander off (Mikey especially) and cause some chaos. I have major respect for Splinter for managing to deal with them all on his own.

I can’t think of anything broad for each of them, but here are some moments from their childhood.

Donnie didn’t speak a single word for the longest time. Splinter was worried he wouldn’t be able to speak or something else was wrong, but when Donnie was 3 years old, he spoke, and in complete sentences. He asked for something small, like a cup of water, which Splinter was quick to oblige... and then he did a double-take because Donnie had finally spoken.
