a speeding ambulance, lights flashing, sirens wailing, EMTs urgently ministering to the patient inside. traffic crawls to a halt as motorists pull off into the shoulder to allow their passage. all who hear the sirens remember that they themselves live on the razor's edge, the specter of tragedy always at their back. some shudder in dread, some sigh in gratitude, others offer their thoughts and prayers for those involved. suddenly, the ambulance veers off course, hitting and critically injuring ME. thats right, now it's MY emergency.
