I can't stop thinking that there should be ways to use magic in a proper way in medical treatments. Also, I think witches could have some interesting insights about medicine and treatments. I am sure that if I lived in that world I would've already joined the Brimmed Caps 😂 (don't judge me!)

I'm shocked by the way Olly's warm contraption turned out to be used. Like... these girls already have some awful trauma, why give them more?

Even as it is stated that changes in the body caused by tattooed seals cannot be undone, I have hope. These girls know how to work as a team. Maybe not right now, but it could give them some purpose to work together

Vol 4 gave us amazing panels!

I hate what happened to Euini. I hate that he was starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel & he was turned into a beast. I hope they can find a way to turn him back, really.

And yet the panel where we see him transformed, was stunning, all dark and menacing.

Olly saying that people are not as straightforward as spells and proceeds to give Qifrey the snugstones for the girls & him, totally not acknowledging that he cared, and yet Qifrey understood 🤍🖤 these two, I love them

Coco is first introduced to magic as a miracle that makes their world vibrant by a Brimmed Hat Witch, then she’s given examples of all the nice things magic can do, and so, she is fascinated by magic.

FFW to when Qifrey explains a quick history of magic, and how it stopped being something ubiquitous and explains what the forbidden spells are how overwhelming everything might feel to Coco, he says that “the spells that are not forbidden are means to bring happiness to people” and encourages her to learn about spells of kindness. That is such a warm and soothing thought for Coco, and it shapes the way she will approach magic: she will think of a plan to bring happiness for the dragon and with the collaboration of the four qiflings, they achieve just that and give some happiness to it.

We are shown that witches help people; the very first chapter Qifrey helps to repair the carriage and later, people go looking for a witch to help with a carriage stranded in water. It is then, that Olly calls out Agott on her showing off and tells her that she should reconsider the purpose of magic. Here, it seems more like the purpose is to help people or be useful, rather than simply bringing happiness. After that, when Easthies and Qifrey are arguing, in Chapter 12, Olly calls them out reminding them that their duty as witches is to “bring the blessing of magic to the people”. One of the last panels of Chapter 12 is the Brimmed Hat Witch that follows Coco saying that “magic is the falsehood that makes our world vibrant,” changing from miracle said to charm Coco in Chapter 1, to falsehood, said to themself.

Then in Chapter 14, Qifrey says that “magic exists to make people happy” and even Tetia gets excited about being thanked for her helping people with her magic. Right after that, Coco has awful nightmares reminding her that her mom told her that magic was not for normal people, and the tragedies that have happened to her for chasing after magic, and we can see how she’s drowning in worry, fear, uncertainty—or a mixture of all these—due to all that has happened to her after getting involved with magic.  Furthermore, all through these chapters we see how Agott is burdened with the weight of living up to the expectations of being the daughter of a great witch, Coco unable to sleep because she kind of feels in a race against time to save her mother, or Qifrey who has had something very valuable taken from him (not by magic itself, but by the Brimmed Hat Witches, as I understand up until this point).

Witches have a duty to bring the blessings of the magic to the people (Does this stem from the day of the Pact? Or where is it coming from?), but some of the outsiders think they are entitled to the witches’ help, and even minimise the efforts of the witches, stating that the witches have it very easy in life, and even show a lack of respect, for example the man who manhandles Qifrey, first forcing him to go and help with the fire and after that, stopping him from returning to the hospital to care for Coco.

Yes, there are bits where magic brings happiness, to the girls, to the dragon; there are moments where magic is useful. But overall, it seems that magic is bringing more pain and struggles to the witches than anything else.

I need to know more about how that world works.

Then, two pages after Qifrey said that, actually, the witches' world was not very accommodating to differences 😭

And then we have this whole page that starts with such a soft message, trying to lift up Coco's mood just to end it with what looks like a blatant lie and Tartah's expression is just like wtf is going on?
