One simplified way to describe depression is the feeling of chronic exhaustion that doesn't go away even after enough sleep. Like everything feels like a task that requires enormous mental effort, even when it's just basic things such as doing dishes or brushing teeth. It's just constantly feeling drained for no apparent reason.
