Even when we fight over something mundane I can’t help but think deep down

she would rather we both die to prove that she was right than live with being wrong.

I love her but she scares me, she isn’t harmless but she is fragile

hurling insults and then asking for help while overwhelmed and in tears

she doesn’t covet me she takes me for granted, She thinks forgetting and forgiving are equivalent.

I was terrified that day driving home

I was behind the wheel but out of control. What could I do if she decided to take the wheel and swerve us into a ditch?

You open the door and stumble upon the last sunset on earth

The eerie silence has been broken as the world starts singing

Distant children’s laughter, dogs barking

Just beyond the pavement lays late spring

The largest oak tree grows lush right at the beginning of summer

but in the glow of the dying sun, only sprouts appear at the ends of its branches

An overture to life emerges from the boughs met with the sound of a neighbor mowing their lawn

Easily confused with the quiet thrum of the earth moving beneath your feet

The final rays of sun slip past the horizon and you stop and take stock
