Fandom Cocktails

Hey, legal-drinking-aged kids!  I have another kylux cocktail recipe for you that is long overdue because I read the fic that inspired it months ago, but I had to put a little extra thought into this cocktail.  The fic I speak of is In A Place Where No One Appeared by @gefionne.  It took me a bit longer to develop this cocktail because the fic takes place primarily on Arkanis and there are many mentions of wine throughout the fic, so it seemed pretty obvious that this cocktail needed to include wine.  I’m sort of a purist when it comes to wine, so I don’t usually put it in cocktails because I feel like it should be appreciated on its own, but I did some research and experimentation to find flavors that blend well with wine, and this is what I came up with.

In A Place Where No One Appeared

Part 1

4 oz chardonnay white wine

2 oz club soda

1 oz vodka

Part 2

1 oz amaretto

2 oz organic tart cherry juice

Chill the chardonnay, club soda, and tart cherry juice beforehand.  Mix part 1 in a large wine glass.  Mix part 2 in a separate glass then add it to the glass, pouring it over the back of a spoon to direct it down the side of the glass.  Part 2 should pour in below part 1 with a clear separation between the layers, though part of part 1 will blend into part 2 which is fine!  The drink should be sharper and stronger at the top and then it gets sweeter the more you drink, to reflect the way the relationship develops throughout the fic. ♥

Hi again, legal-drinking-folks!  I have another Trigun cocktail for you tonight.  This one is inspired by quite possibly my favorite villain in the series.  She’s incredibly badass, she’s stylish, and her weapon is SO COOL and iconic!  She’s also the first trans character I ever saw in a work of fiction.  All hail the Crimson Nail!

Elendira the Crimsonnail

Part 1:

1 oz peach schnapps

1 oz amaretto

.5 oz vanilla schnapps 

Part 2:

1 oz rum

.5 oz Smirnoff Strawberry

.5 oz Smirnoff Whipped Cream

.5 oz Viniq Glow

Part 3:

A teaspoon of grenadine

Mix part one in a shaker with ice and pour it into a martini glass.  Mix part 2 in a shaker with ice and layer it on top of part one, using a spoon to direct it down the side of the glass.  Then pour a teaspoon of grenadine right down the center.  Most of the grenadine will settle in the bottom, creating an nice gradient from red to shimmering orange at the top.  Garnish with a strawberry skewered with a large nail.

2 oz brandy

1 oz creme de banana liqueur

1 oz creme de cacao liqueur 

1 oz bourbon creme liqueur

.5 oz Blue Chair Bay banana rum

Mix all ingredients in a shaker with ice and pour into a glass rimmed with agave nectar and cocoa powder.  Garnish with a slice of banana.

I’m not sure why I thought chocolate/banana is IMDb to me.  Maybe something to do with bananas = yellow, like the IMDb logo.  Also, a friend of mine suggested it should be something that would go well with both salty and sweet snacks, and this should pair exceptionally well with popcorn and pretzels particularly, and still taste nice with classic chocolate and candy movie snacks.

New cocktail tonight, because I think we could all really use a drink.  This one is inspired by my favorite website to go to when things get bad and I really need to escape into fiction for a little while:  Archive of Our Own.

Part 1

2 oz cranberry juice

1 oz 3 Olives Loopy vodka

1 oz amaretto

1 teaspoon of maraschino cherry juice

Part 2

1 oz coconut milk

1 oz vanilla vodka

Mix part 1 in a cocktail shaker with ice, and strain into a highball glass.  Rinse your shaker and mix part 2 with ice and strain it over the back of a spoon to direct it down the side of the glass and float it over the top of layer 1.  Garnish with 3 cherries skewered in a row.

Be strong, folks.  Don’t give up.  And please take care of yourselves, and each other.

Hey again, legal-drinking-aged kids!  I’ve been feeling nostalgic over Dragon Ball Z, the first anime I really got into, way back in the day.  So I made a cocktail in honor of my favorite DBZ character, my beloved asexual alien!

ピッコロさん(大好き!) 

Piccolo-san (daisuki!)

1/2 teaspoon Matcha powder

3 oz hot water

3 oz milk

2-4 teaspoons of agave nectar

1 oz Midori 

1 oz ginger liqueur

2 oz brandy 

whipped cream

Sift the matcha powder into a bowl, then add the hot water and whisk it until the powder is mixed in.  Then add the milk (I prefer to use whole milk) and agave nectar (2-4 teaspoons, or to taste) and stir it all together.  Add the Midori, ginger liqueur, and brandy, stir or shake all together and pour over ice in a pint glass.  Top with whipped cream, and garnish with a little dusting of matcha powder.  This is basically an alcoholic iced matcha latte.  Quite tasty, and fairly strong (though not as strong as a Super Saiyan, unfortunately.)

Hey, (legal drinking-aged) Kids!  Guess what I’ve been doing for the past week and a half!  Yeah, that’s right.  I’m one of the people who got sucked into Pokemon Go!  I’m having a lot of fun with this game.  It’s easy to incorporate with my regular daily walking and exercise routine, and it’s fun!  So, in honor of that, I’ve made cocktails inspired by the 3 different teams included in the game!

Team Instinct

2 oz brandy

1 oz creme de banana liqueur

1 oz Smirnoff Kissed Caramel

.5 oz Viniq Glow

I don’t personally know anyone on Team Instinct at the moment, but I’ll be damned if I leave them out.  The flavor profile of this drink is something like Bananas Foster.

Team Mystic

2 oz tequila

1 oz blue curacao

1 oz Smirnoff Citrus

.5 oz Viniq Original

My sister is on Team Mystic.  The flavor profile is this one is based on a traditional margarita, with the citrus and tequila flavors.  If you don’t like the taste of tequila, you can easily replace it with vodka without reducing the alcohol content.

Team Valor

2 oz rum

1 oz amaretto

1 oz Smirnoff Cranberry

.5 oz Viniq Ruby

a dash of grenadine

I’m on Team Valor myself.  My sister describes the flavor profile of this one as “medicine,” but she’s on Team Mystic, so what does she know?  I would say it’s has a warm, distinctly alcoholic, fruity/nutty flavor.

Hey, legal-drinking-tumblr folks.  I have another Trigun drink for you today.  This one represents the second of the bad-ass Insurance Lady duo.  This one is in three parts, though the final part is a decorative drizzle.

Milly Thompson

Base:

2 oz bourbon creme liqueur 

1 oz Bailey’s Chocolate Cherry

1 oz Smirnoff Kissed Caramel

1 oz Licor 43

Top:

1 oz heavy cream

.5 oz of vanilla liqueur

Drizzle:

2 parts heavy cream

1 part dark creme de cacao

Mix the base in a shaker with some ice, and pour into a martini glass.  In a second, smaller glass of vessel, mix the top layer (without ice) and float it over the top of the base by pouring it over the back of a spoon to direct it down the side of the glass, so it forms a second layer over the top.  Mix the drizzle in your smaller glass or vessel (also without ice.  You shouldn’t need more than an ounce in total) and then, using the spoon, lightly drizzle it in parallel lines across the top of the drink.  Then drag a toothpick, knife, or other thin object back and forth across the top to mimic the design traditionally found on the top of a mille feuille.  This one is a very creamy and dessert-y drink, fitting for Milly and her kind and sunny personality.

Hey again, legal-drinking-folks!  Here’s another Trigun cocktail.  This one and the next one I post are based on the series’s two bad-ass insurance ladies!  This first one is a layered drink in 3 parts.  Instructions follow~

Meryl Stryfe

Part 1:

1.5 oz Sir Bananas banana flavored milk

1.5 oz creme de cacao

Part 2:

1.5 oz Sir Bananas banana flavored milk

1.5 oz Smirnoff Vanilla vodka

Part 3:

1.5 oz Sir Bananas banana flavored milk

1 oz Smirnoff Strawberry vodka

.5 oz brandy

a dash of grenadine

Mix each layer individually in a shaker with a few ice cubes, rinsing the shaker in between each one.  Starting with part 1, which you can just strain directly into a highball glass.  Carefully strain part 2 over the back of a spoon, directing it down the side of the glass so it flows over the top of part 1 and forms a second layer.  Repeat that process again with part 3 to form the the third, top layer.  Garnish with whipped cream and a cherry.  The basis for this cocktail is a classic banana sundae, which our beloved industrious and determined Meryl ordered from the bar in her first appearance in both the anime and the manga.  I doubt this is what she had in mind, but I’m sure she would have preferred it over the response she received.

Nicholas D. Wolfwood

12 oz hard cider

1 oz Wild Turkey bourbon

1 oz Fireball cinnamon whiskey

Pour hard cider into a pint glass (preferably one that actually holds a bit more than 16 oz, or this will definitely overflow).  In two separate shot glasses, pour a shot of Wild Turkey and a shot of Fireball.  Drop the Wild Turkey shot into your pint glass, followed by the Fireball shot.  This is a DOUBLE bomb shot drink.  TWO shots.  Everyone knows that TWO AT ONCE IS A BAD IDEA.  I’M LOOKING AT YOU, WOLFWOOD.

That’s right, this is a direct reference to THAT chapter from the manga.

I’m going to Hell for this.  Forgive me, o Lord.

Hey (legal drinking-aged) kids.  I’ve been making a series of cocktails based on characters from my all-time favorite anime/manga ever:  Trigun.  This first cocktail is for the main character.  Here we go:

Vash the Stampede

1 oz Wild Turkey bourbon

1.5 oz 360 Glazed Donut vodka

1.5 oz Licor 43

1 oz butterscotch liqueur

1 oz Smirnoff Kissed Caramel

Serve in a highball glass over ice.  This drink doesn’t look fancy.  It looks like a whiskey on the rocks, a pretty standard tough-guy drink, but that’s as deceptive as the character this drink is based on.  While it is still quite strong, it’s surprisingly sweet.  I did everything I could to try to make this taste like a liquid, alcoholic donut.
