Louis: First saw him when his concept art was revealed at the first announcement of the season and became obsessed with him right away (and this is how my blog came to be lmao). I knew he was going to be a really interesting character from the get go and I wasn’t disappointed. I adore him.

Violet: Not gonna lie, when I first saw her concept art and description I was expecting Jane 2.0 AND MY GOD AM I SO HAPPY TO BE PROVEN WRONG. Turns out she is an amazing and well developed character.

Marlon: “I-is that a mullet…? …part of me is disgusted by this and another part of me loves that he looks like the dude from “The Lost Boys”.

Aasim: “urgh this guy is gonna end up annoying me isn’t he?…wait, why am I suddenly shipping him with Louis.” (turns out I love him)

Tenn: “OMG I WOULD DIE FOR YOU, YOU PRECIOUS CINNAMON ROLL. PLEASE BE MY FRIEND.”

Omar: “Eh…” (and now I’ve claimed him as my underrated son and have been preaching the word of Omar in an attempt to make him actually popular within the fandom since episode 1)

Ruby: “Look I’m sorry AJ bit you dude, please don’t kill me.”

Mitch: “You look exactly like one of my friends and I’m shook right now”

Willy: “…Is he mute?” (I genuinely thought he couldn’t talk when we first met him)

Brody: “You are so pretty and I love your eyes”

Are we still using James, Ruby and Aasim?

Well given that Louis’s reaction towards James before officially meeting him in episode 3 wasn’t particularly enthusiastic (since all he knew about him was how Violet described him) I think he would “Kill” James.

Then I think he would marry Ruby (she would make a great wife and he would probably say it to tease Aasim)

Which means he would flip Aasim (I would honestly love to see his reaction to that lmao)

Minnie was actually a hard character to get right all season, but I’m very happy with how she turned out. I’m gonna describe the process below and know that this is a normal and healthy rev cycle, so please no “wow you changed your mind a bunch?” Because that’s how writing works. These were on schedule creative revs, not crazy S2/3 redos of plot. So!

For the longest time we were like “Minnie should definitely show up, she’s so important in 401, but what will she do?” I feel like we ran every possibility from her being an ally to an utter villian. There were very early drafts of 404 that had her come back to the school in some branches. However, once we narrowed down onto what she cared about being Tenn (and nothing else) it all clicked into place.

The “bridge” existed for a while as some kind of final raider themed obstacle to Clem making it home. For a long time we thought one of the raiders, whoever was the last one alive would make a desperate attempt to kill the kids. Sullene was actually top candidate for a while (it’s part of why she is shown so visibly upset about Yonatan’s death, it was the start of a revenge arc for her against Clem. She also in a early draft has Dorian’s role in the cells. Also she and Yonatan were lovers at some point. On paper Sullene went through a damn adventure) Sullene was once strapped with explosives and on fire and was the bridge rival boss fight. But while that functioned fine for plot reasons, it wasn’t thematically interesting.

I actually remember during a weekend on a creative leads slack channel I suddenly realized Minnie could take Sullene’s place and excitedly blurted it to the other leads. I am pretty sure I had the inital spark, and then the writers (Adam and Mary for the most part) created her horrifying dialog on the bridge. I am not sure who had the idea for her singing but as soon as we had that I was so convinced this would be great. This was mid 403 writing, and I can’t recall if it was before or after James Windler wrote “the parable of the Twins” But it was an idea that made total sense once we showed exactly how broken Minnie was is in Lilly’s speech.

And it was at first just REVENGE!! on Clem, but the twist that she was bitten and wanted to take Tenn with her, then it all just worked. It’s so sad and fucked up yet provides enough motivation for her horrific actions.

kind of an aside: I really liked that Clementine’s last opponent was a teenage girl her own age. Has a kind of fitting symmetry to it. The adults are all gone, the young survivors are fighting over what’s left. Clem versus someone she could have been.

The entire “Minnie as grim pied piper of walkers” was a thing I was so worried would turn out to be way too silly until it actually appeared on screen and even in a super rough version we all felt chills. I knew it was gonna be gold after we got the voice. Cherami is INCREDIBLE and deserves all the praise she’s getting.

(Fun fact we once had Minnie singing DURING the shoot at walkers gameplay sequence, but that was just a step too far)

(Also I haven’t heard anyone yet notice that the background music during the Minnie walker attack is a boss battle rendition of “Don’t Be Afraid” But it is! Listen! It rules!)
