This is not how you thought the most powerful entity on the face of the earth would be changing reality. You thought it would be more explosive and destructive and while this is certainly destructive, it was just a bit odd. Working with the S.W.O.R.D team, you sat next to leading Astrophysicist, Darcy Lewis, watching a black and white broadcast of Wanda’s alternate reality. It was hard to even describe what you were seeing, but as the credits rolled after the end of the first episode, you caressed the bubbled screen of the tv you two were gazing upon. “How powerful is her grief to create such a tear in the fabric of space and time?”  The ravenette sighed, leaning back into her chair and kicking her feet up. Twirling the pencil that Darcy had been writing down observations with between her fingers she looked at you in a casual manner. 

“Well grief is a powerful thing...but that’s just one theory as to why she is doing what she is. This might not be Wanda’s doing at all, she could be being held captive by one of like- a billion wizardy people that are here on earth from all over the cosmos and then some that are on the Earth.” That idea alone messed with your head a bunch. You knew post-blip life was going to be drastically different but you didn’t know it would be made up of- well this. Witches mourning and coping with playing house was just at the top of your concerns, but that being said the tip of the iceberg is only the beginning. Mirroring Darcy, you relaxed into your leather chair with slumped shoulders, tossing your pencil onto a similar looking notepad on your shared desk. 

“You know-” You closed your eyes for a moment since you were still processing your mission at the moment. “When I started working for S.W.O.R.D I never thought that my job would consist of watching old timey romcoms in attempts to extract an Avenger. I mean hell, I didn’t even know that aliens are real and now you could mention it in conversation and I wouldn’t even blink. This is just-”

“Not what you signed up for?” Darcy cut you off, causing you to open your tired eyes to look over at the scientist peering back at you with sympathy. 

“No, no. I just didn’t know it was going to be this weird.” You let out a breathy chuckle and that seemed to pull one from your co-worker as well.

“Yeah it’s weird as hell.”

Sitting up, your chair squeaked in protest as you got ready to go through a butt ton of paperwork. “It’s weird but we are doing important work here. I’m still helping people and that is what I signed up for. Now I’m gonna go get coffee so we can start theorizing.”

Though before you could even raise your rump off your seat and plant your feet firmly on the floor, a familiar voice stopped you in your tracks. “No need! I got us all cups when I went to get mine!”

Such a voice was uncommon in this line of work. It was one of comfort and hospitality, one that just reminded you of snuggling up at home on the couch during the winter with that one really fluffy comforter that retrained your body heat really well. That voice came from none other than magician in training, Jimmy Woo himself. Both Darcy and You turned in your chairs to meet his gaze, and he handed both of you the cups in question, having balanced all three in an effort to make working easier for all three of you. 

“Aw, well aren’t you just too sweet? Thanks man.” Darcy, amused at his actions, took her cup and sipped from it whilst turning back around. You however, even after you took your plastic cup that was warm from the inside out due to it being rather thin, decided to quiz your co-worker and case partner. 

“You know how I like my coffee? What have you been doing, stalking me?” You teased, hiding your shock with a bit of sarcastic teasing. 

“Of course I do Y/n. We’ve been working together for almost a month already on separate cases than this one and, well you know-” He shrugged, his jacket rubbing against itself, creating a gritty noise to signify its rough texture through sound. “It’s the least I could do. You are the brains of the operation half the time so consider it an act of gratitude.” He honestly hadn’t thought of it as anything too major. Jimmy remembered you giving your order over the phone once, A large black coffee with a shot of espresso, two teaspoons of sugar and 5 pumps of creamer. It was energetic and sweet just like you were...maybe that’s why he remembered; it reminded him of you. 

Even though he didn’t find it to be that impressive, consider yourself thoroughly impressed. You looked down with a smile, steam rising through the opening of the rather flimsy disposable lid. You would blame that for the soft rosy hue that was rising to your cheeks and not that fact that you were so easily flattered by Jim’s actions. “Well...Thank you for being so considerate.” Your tone came out to be rather soft, having a hint of emotions that he wasn’t expecting. 

Though because you took such an action to heart and were now acting rather shy, Jimmy was internally beaming with pride. A dorky smile pulled at his lips, and his hand went to pat your shoulder. “Don’t mention it. You have a long night ahead so if you need anything else just let me know okay?” His touch was so gentle but unfortunately fleeting as he retracted his hand due to Darcy clearing her throat to gather the lovebird’s attention. 

“Hey, I’m going to need you to go get something from the tech room, Mr. Woo.” She hummed, and he turned sharply, looking like a soldier willing to do whatever he needed. 

With a puffed up chest, he gave a sharp nod. “Yes, Ma’am. What is it that you need? I can get you anything,” Leaning in between the two of you and glancing back and forth, he whispered. “Even if it’s off limits.” 

Darcy looked at him with her eyebrows raised and her lips pressed into a line. “Dude I just need  the remote for the TV so I can rewind it.” 

Jimmy’s shoulders tensed, standing bolt straight as he went to scratch the back of his neck with his free hand since he had sat everything down, including his own coffee on the desk. “O-oh heh, I knew that.” His dorkiness drew a smile and eventually a laugh from your lips and two sets of eyes landed on you. 

“Hurry up and go nab it before your coffee gets cold-” Lightly hitting him on the arm, he clutched the spot dramatically and frowned. 

With a smile you watch him walk out the door, waving before slipping past the door frame down the bustling hall. Jim just amazed you to no extent. He balanced being serious and a good agent with a sense of humor that was just so childlike it made your cheeks hurt from smiling. With a full heart because of his aura, you turned to grab your coffee and finally get to work but your advances were blocked by Darcy who had the widest smug grin on her face. “Sooooo, when are you going to confess your love?”

“Okay okay, ow! I’m going, I’m going!”
