Day 1 of 30 Days Korean vocabulary challenge is animals.ย ย
Itโs okay to be a beginner at the things you are interested in. There is no reason to feel intimidated by people more advanced than you are, because they too were in your place at one point. Keep learning and growing and expanding in whatever it is that you love and let nothing and no one stop you. You donโt have to be at the same stage as someone else. You can just be at your stage and that one is okay too.

BUT I DONโT WANNAA.. ์ซ์ด.
So your boss is forcing you to do a job you donโt want to do, or your mom made you eat your vegetables, and you want to complain about it. LETโS LEARN HOW TO TALK ABOUT IT.
์ต์ง๋ก + (๋์ฌ/Verb) ย โ To do unwillingly / be forced to do sth ์ ์๋์ด ๋๋ดํ์ จ์๋ ์ต์ง๋ก ์์์ด์. โ When my teacher told a joke I forced a smile. ์ ๋ง์ด ์์ง๋ง ์๋ง๊ฐ ์ ๋ ์ ๋ง๋์ ์ ์ต์ง๋ก ๋จน์์ด์. I had no appetite, but I had to eat because my mom cooked dinner.
It can also mean physically forced (clothes, objects, etc.) ์ต์ง๋ก ๋ฌธ์ย ์ด๋ ค๋ค๊ฐ ๋ฌธ๊ณ ๋ฆฌ๊ฐ ๊ณ ์ฅ๋ฌ์ด์. โ I forced the door open and the handle broke off.ย
๋ง์ง๋ชปํด + (๋์ฌ/Verb) โ To reluctantly do sth ์ ์นํ ์น๊ตฌ์ ๋ถํ์ ๋ง์ง๋ชปํด ๋ค์ด์คฌ์ด์. โ I unwillingly did a favor for my friend that Iโm not very close with. ์ข์ผ๋ฉด์ ๋ง์ง๋ชปํด ๋ฏธํ ์ ๋๊ฐ๋ ์ฒ ํ์ง๋ง. โ Stop pretending like you donโt want to go to meeting (group blind date)
์ธ๋ฉฐ ๊ฒจ์ ๋จน๊ธฐ๋ก + (๋์ฌ/Verb) โ To bite the bullet or grin and bear it (literally translated means to eat mustard and cry) ์ธ๋ฉฐ ๊ฒจ์ ๋จน๊ธฐ๋ก ์ผ ๊ฐ์ ์ง์ ๋ด๋์์ด์. โ I bit the bullet and put my house up for cheap ํ๊ฐ ๋ค ํ๋ ค์ ์ธ๋ฉฐ ๊ฒจ์ ๋จน๊ธฐ๋ก ์ํ๋ฅผ ์์ด์. โ The tickets sold out so I bit the bullet and bought a scalperโs ticket.
The most commonly used phrase is ์ต์ง๋ก~, but these are all important pieces of grammar. They are all very similar, but are used in different situations. ๋ง์ง๋ชปํด~ย is the least serious of the three, and ์ธ๋ฉฐโฆ~ is the most serious.ย
One common phrase Iโll hear from friends isย โ๋ง์ง๋ชปํ๋ ์ฒ ํ์ง๋งโ when Iโm pretending like I donโt want the last slice of pizza, I always want the last slice of pizza.

anyone have a good way to remember these?
the ๋(ๅ) in ์ด๋ means movement (as in ํ๋, ํ๋, ๋ถ๋์ฐ) and exercising is movement.
์ ๋ฉ์ด is made of water, and ๋ฌผ(water) and ์ share the same vowel (ใ )
์๋ฉ์ด is just a cuter word than the other two, cause butts are cute, thatโs too easy.
์ ์ฐจํ๋ค = to stop for a moment, to call at (-์ด/๊ฐ) ๋ฐ์ํ๋ค = to happen, take place ์ ๋ฐํ๋ค = select, pick ์ถ๋ํ๋ค = collide into from behind, to rear-end ๊ธฐ๋กํ๋ค = to record ์ค๋จํ๋ค = to stop, suspend ๋๊ธฐํ๋ค = be on stand-by, on call ๋ํผํ๋ค = evacuate, take shelter ์ถ๋ฝํ๋ค = to crash/fall from a height ๋ค์ด๋ฐ๋ค = to run into, to hit ๊ทธ์น๋ค = to cease, stop, end ์ธ์๋๋ค = increase
์นจ์๋๋ค = be flooded, inundated, submerged ์ฐ์ํ๋ค = excellent, outstanding
์ฐ์์ผ๋ก = in a row, in sequence ์งํ = immediately after
ํ์ฌ = a fire ์ฒ๋ฆฌ = taking care of/dealing with (sth) ๊ท๋ชจ = scale, size ์์ธ = cause ๊ณณ๊ณณ = here and there, in various places ์น๊ฐ = passenger ๋ชฉ๊ฒฉ์ = witness

Thank you for running this awesome blog! I have a question in how ๋ is used
Hello ~
Thank you for enjoying it ^^ย
๋๋ค is a verb that has A LOT of uses, Iโll just try and cover the main ones here.ย
Become starting with its uses itโs worth noting how it gets conjugated. When it is followed by ์ด/์ it will change into either ๋ผ or ๋์ด, both are correct, however ๋์ด seems to be used only for more formal style writing. [[ If itโs not followed by ์ด/์ it does not change, many Koreans seem to make this mistake so you might see it being used incorrectly sometimes.]] ย
Usually when youโre first learning Korean you will see it translated asย โto becomeโ.ย
์ ์๋์ด ๋๊ณ ์ถ์ด์. = I want to become a teacher.ย ๊ฒจ์ธ์ด ๋๋ฉด ๋์ด ๋ง์ด ์์ = When it becomes winter it snows a lot.ย
It can also be used to describe whether or not something is sufficient (often money).
๋ง์ ์์ผ๋ฉด ๋ฉ๋๋ค. = 10,000won will be enough.ย
It also is part of a grammar point that is used to ask for, give or deny permission to do a certain action. If you google ์ด/์๋ ๋๋ค and (์ผ)๋ฉด ์ ๋๋ค you can find more resources.ย
์ฌ๊ธฐ์ ์ฌ์ง์ ์ฐ์ด๋ ๋ผ์? ย = Can I take photos here?
์๋์. ์ฌ๊ธฐ์ ์ฌ์ง์ ์ฐ์ผ๋ฉด ์ ๋ผ์ = No. You cannot take photos here.ย
Now it gets a little bit more complicated. In Korean there is a distinction between using ํ๋ค and ๋๋ค. So although you can see ์์ํ๋ค, ์์๋๋ค, ์ค๋นํ๋ค, ์ค๋น๋๋ค, ์ทจ์งํ๋ค, ์ทจ์ง๋๋ค. The implied meaning differs slightly.ย
Very simply; ํ๋ค implies an โactiveโ action, i.e the subject of the sentence is the one who brought about the change. While ๋๋ค is more passive and describes something that occurred through a series of events.ย
ย ํ๊ตญ์ด๋ฅผ ๋ฐฐ์ฐ๊ธฐ ์์ํ์ด์ = I started to learn Korean.ย
ํ๊ต๊ฐ ์์๋์ด์. = School begins.ย
์์์ด ๋ค ๋์ด์ = The food is ready.ย
You can see this difference in how you use the grammar points ๊ฒ ๋๋ค (to turn out) ย vs ๊ฒ ํ๋ค (to make someone do something).ย
์ฌ๋ฆ ๋ฐฉํ ๋ ํธ์ฃผ์ ๊ฐ๊ฒ ๋์ด์. = I went to Australia in the summer break. (Implies a slightly unexpected event or event out of the speakers direct control i.e their parents took them to Australia.)ย
๊ธฐ๋ค๋ฆฌ๊ฒ ํด์ ์ฃ์กํด์. = Sorry for making you wait.ย
There are many more ways of using ๋๋ค but hopefully this explanation helped you a bit ~ย
(p.s. I learned this over a serious of years please donโt get too freaked out by all the uses, if youโre fairly new to Korean focus on the first one only!)ย
๋ด ์์ ์์ด์ค Be by my side. x
