slipping, slipping, slipping

“Slow down, kid, before you hurt yourself.” Nikita dislikes being bumped into at the best of times, and with her… skillset, it usually doesn’t happen at all. She guides crowds around her like a pebble diverting a stream.

“Guess it depends of the ‘them.’”

Blunt fingernails carded through his hair to keep the style neat (he hasn’t had it cut in quite some time because it’s the same cut-throat story currently pouring into one of the snooker-table pockets.) (also it’s the having to pay for something so cosmetic, now that it’s not necessary to fit inside a helmet.) (call it a head-scratch.)

He paces towards the dead soldiers like he’s looking for something in a museum exhibit.

        ‘ if that was supposed to be profound, i'll have you know it didn’t sound like anything to me. ’ admitting that he can’t track the metaphor would be a death blow to his gargantuan pride, being rude simply is the next best thing.

the ride over had kept her thoughts just as scattered and broken, the only thing keeping her from throwing up or crying sheer fear of being asked what’s wrong. her legs nearly give out getting out of the car, gripping the railing before pushing the door open. 

‘ hello? is anyone — ‘ 

within seconds of hearing the door click, five is at vanya’s side, appearing out of thin air to keep her upright.  it’s uncharacteristically on the ball for a man with little to no skills in emotional literacy. the brief (but very real) hug he pulls her into is what the phrase “when pigs fly” has been anticipating all these years.
