Iām sorry this is all gonna be a rant because of the newest ep- But I think Iām⦠getting too cynical to watch The Boys? I mean I have to finish it at this point.
But centering so much of its final few episodes on setting up underwhelming endings for characters we will see in this new prequel show- (which, I might not even watch, considering it will only glorify a bigoted character. Alongside showcasing a cast of equally questionable variety, as I can only assume.)
Sure, solider boy is complex, but heās also incredibly simple in his main character traits. ļæ¼ Unfortunately, those character traits are not ļæ¼ endearing enough to warrant a desire to watch his origins, watch his downward spiral, watch him beat the living shit out of nearly every teammate he is handed, AND NOW watch him fall in love with a nazi.
Stormfront isnāt a good enough character to warrant this kind of attention. She served her purpose incredibly well when she was present in the narrative- and her actress did a phenomenal job at playing her. But her end should have been the end. Unearthing her for a sliver of drama between Solider Boy and Homelander is dumb. (Can you tell how I feel about the ending of the new ep?)
Because now, her origins will be prioritized as well. I will never understand the writing direction in this aspect, because why would anyone truly think that general audiences want to watch this? Unless we are now appealing to the same viewers who arenāt joking when they call āthe deepā peak?
Iām so serious. I know people are saying the Gen V cancellation couldnāt have been purely political, and had to do with numbers and also Amazon just cancelling good shows- but this feels oddly targeted.
Theyāve already made the boys vastly less impactful due to them prioritizing elements and characters from another show that we are yet to see. MEANWHILE they prematurely ended another show, with a diverse cast and a thrilling storyline, that ALSO had a direct connection to Voughts past, was made to be incredibly impactful- just for them to scrap it all. To shelve a character with a direct connection to homelander.
I genuinely have no idea how Marie is gonna fit in all of this without it feeling forced. Itās sad and incredibly frustrating, as I consider her character rather groundbreaking. The entire Gen V gang deserves so much better.ļæ¼
What happened with Sage is a whole thing on its own- of course they had to make her slip up in order for the plot to progress at some point- BUT THATS HOW THEY WROTE IT?š good lord. They cripple incredibly capable POC characters left and right out here⦠Iād put the meme, with āIf I had a nickelā for Marie and Sage, but now I need to add noir- because imagine being murdered by the deep⦠from being caught off guard⦠wow.
I have so much to say but I feel like Iām screaming into the void.
