HIT ME WITH LIGHTNING

   He supposed he got the whole ‘wanting something you’ve never had’, but.. He just didn’t understand why you’d need the whole big family or whatever. “Well, I mean.. Do you need like.. Kids and all that for that? You can have a two-person family and love each other..” He frowned at his own question. “Shouldn’t even be thinking about this yet.” He thinks he has said before that he thinks they are too young for stuff like this.

   He hesitates a moment “So does… Sero want that?”

“It can be just two people.” Denki agrees easily enough, attention focused on the boy as he continued to speak. Maybe he was right, and this shouldn’t be a thought across their minds, but... It felt natural, to think about the future, what you wanted for it. Of course things would change but- What she felt for now was honest. 

 At the mention of Sero, and what he wanted for the future, her eyebrows furrowed. 

 “I’m not sure. It’s not like I’ve really talked to him about it, I don’t even think he’s ever thought of me as anything but a friend so it hasn’t really come up. I think he would want a family, but even if he didn’t... That would be okay. I want him, not what he can give me y’know? If he didn’t want kids we could always get like, a dog or something. I like animals.” Denki shrugs, grinning a bit. 

   Did she realise that she was actively arguing against her own habits? “Well, then I don’t even have an argument to defend your dumbass sleeping schedules. Go to bed sooner.” He concluded, pushing her shoulder.

   “Waking up early is a habit like anything else. Routine, ya know? You just gotta get used to it.” He paused a moment and gave her a sideway glance, lips pursing slightly. “What do you keep talking about that kind of future for?” He asked. “That’s so far away.. You shouldn’t be worrying about dumb shit like that yet.” And he knows that, probably, when she is saying such things and imagining them, she is thinking about Sero, which is ridiculous… They are far from heroes, or adults..

Denki snorted, unable to help from laughing before she situated herself once more. She laid down this time, arms folded under her head. “I’ll try.” The blonde concedes, chest rising and falling lazily before she turned her attention from roof to the boy next to her. 

A good question. Why did she think about those things...?

 “I dunno. I just think it’d be nice, to have like, a husband or something. A family eventually.” Lazily she shifts, moving to sit up and lean forward, crossing her legs and resting her elbows on her knees. 

   He actually perks up a little at that. It shouldn’t make him feel so happy that Denki apparently misses him when he goes to bed. This is not what ‘getting over something’ looks like, after all.

   Denki gets treated on another less-than-impressed look. “Maybe if you went to bed on time you’d be more of a morning person.” He tells her. He logic is backwards.. “I suppose you might have to do night-patrols like Aizawa-sensei when you’re a hero..” Depends on where they end up. Perhaps Denki’s earlier talk of the future is what makes him muse about that.

 The glare is met with a small smile, but under his attention it shifts to a slight pout. Denki’s amusement is unbridled, however, and as she leans back against the heels of her palms her head tilts back. She studies the ceiling, gnawing on her bottom lip. 

 “Maybe.” There was a couple issues with her working the nightshift as a hero though. Her quirk and Aizawa’s weren’t exactly... similar. It likely wouldn’t work out as well. 

 “But it’s so flashy, it’d probably disturb people who were trying to sleep y’know? Plus, I don’t mind being up during the day, just... Waking up early is such a drag. Besides, what about when I’m with someone? If they work during the day we’ll hardly see each other.”

   “Well, yeah.. It’s a public event. Publicity an’ all is important for business..” He didn’t mind dressing up so much. At least his parents rarely asked him to wear a tie. Denki seemed eager to do right by his parents’ image, which was kind of endearing, but also a bit unnecessary. “Oh, well.. Depends. Are you gonna–” He fumbled a little here. He didn’t want to come off offensive or anyting {that was a first}. “Are you going to wear girls’ clothes or boys’ clothes..?” No doubt about it people would assume they were on a date if she wore a dress, while if she presented as a boy they probably wouldn’t look twice..

   “I mean, you could wear the dress my mom gave you, if you wanted.. I know what it looks like so…” He could easily match it if that was what she wanted. “Then again people might tease you ‘bout it bein’ last season, ‘cause fashion people are snobs..” He chewed on some rice as he thought about the dresscode. Never before had he payed it so much mind.

   “Well, yeah, it’ll be less boring if you come, for sure.. I probably wouldn’t go if you didn’t want to…”

 The question did pose some thought. After all, as much as Denki had begun to enjoy feeling less confined by her clothing the more she branched out, this was a public thing... It wasn’t just her classmates and teachers, no, this was different. The thought has her throat feeling tight, making it harder to swallow then it had been before. 

 Still, this was a chance to hang out with one her friends. She wasn’t going to let strangers, who likely wouldn’t even give her a second glance, an issue. So, with a renewed vigor she offered the other blond a grin. 

 “Okay. I’ll wear the dress your mom gave me, can you match with that?” Denki asks, pulling her arms off the table and moving to take a sip of her drink. It was going to be a good night, she would make sure of it. Well, she’d try at last and that’s what counted. 

 His words catch her attention though. If he hadn’t planned on going without her, then was he simply going for her sake? 

   No. This is infinitely worse. She was too close.

   He does not say that, of course. He just sighs and nods. “I sleep before midnight every night.” He gives her a somewhat condemning look. “You should too, it’s better for you to sleep enough hours.” Eight, ideally.

   Was there any way he could subtly move away from her without offending her? Probably not. He remembers what Shinsou had said about ‘the right person’. All he had to do was remember that she wasn’t it. That should help him get over this, right? But God was it hard when she was right there next to him.

Satisfied that the issue was successfully handled, Denki continued the conversation. 

 “I know you do, that’s kind of why it gets boring.” The advice is heard, understood, and quickly cast aside. Denki’s shoulders roll instead, humming quietly. 

   “Uhuh..” He nodded, hummed, generally gave every sign he was listening, even if he wasn’t ver invested { obviously so }. He didn’t need to know how good Sero had gotten at clearing an obstacle course with his tape, slinging around like some kind of skinny orangutang..

   Parents? God, where was her head at? Such future-plans even though they were hardly through their first year of high school. Bakugou didn’t think about that stuff at all… He didn’t want a family like that, and he had no sisters.. He supposed in that Sero was better than he was. Better suited for Denki anyway…

   “Denki.. I’m tired, could you like… Tone it down?” He didn’t want to tell her not to talk about Sero. That would be obvious.

“Tired?” Tawny eyes glance over the other boy. They hadn’t done anything terribly strenuous today, well- of course there had been training but that didn’t usually bother Katsuki much. Although he did tend to go to sleep pretty early. 

So did Sero. 

 Scooting closer she moved so that she’d be able to nudge his shoulder with her own. 

 “Don’t go falling asleep on me. It’s boring when everyone crashes before midnight.” Her voice is lower this time, likely due to the change in proximity. 

 “Did you see him clear the obstacle course earlier? He’s gotten really good, it’s kind of weird to think that we’re sort of like the best of the best y’know? Like one day most of us are going to be parents. How weird would it be growing up and seeing your mom or your dad, or both on the news all the time.” 

 Denki stretches out, having finally traded in their gym uniform for something lighter. Just shorts and a shirt, nothing special. 

   “Kinda depends..” He pushed his chopsticks through his rice. “If you like that sorta stuff and actually know what’s going on I guess you’d think it’s fun. It gets boring after a couple times, to be honest.” He’s been so often. “And I always gotta dress up ‘cause I’m the designers’ son…” Which just… Doesn’t make all that much sense to him. Dress up just so the press and the models can fawn over him?

   What was he even doing? He was trying to get her to come with him. To be excited about it! But perhaps he was also nervous about getting her too excited and then disappointing her… He didn’t want that.

   “It’s mostly just pretty clothes. They’re doing a spring collection, so lots of dresses and skirts…”

 “Makes sense that you’d have to dress nice.” She hadn’t really pegged Katsuki for the type to go to such an event, but it did make sense. Although- the information did raise another question. 

 “What are you wearing? I should try to match it, right? I can see what I have, though I don’t know if it’s fancy enough but I mean, I don’t wanna try too hard y’know?” Sure she’d been able to pick up some things here and there, and she had her dress from both Mitsuki and the ball, but her wardrobe hadn’t changed all too much. She’d still have to go home at the end of the semester and she didn’t really want to have to have that conversation with her parents yet.

Still, she had to look good for tonight.

 A bite is taken, her cheeks budging out slightly, unable to quell the smile that quirked at her lips. 

   When he had asked ‘what are you doing this weekend?’ he had actually asked because he wanted to know if she was free this evening. Apparently his tone had not properly conveyed the implied ‘if you are not doing anything, we should do something together’ part of his message.

   “Actually.. I was wondering if you’d like to come see a fashion show. My parents are having one tonight.” He shrugged. “Since you seemed to like my mom’s dress so much…”

 Whoa-

“Like an actual fashion show?” Denki asks, shifting her weight a bit, more then a little bit surprised at the question. She knew Katsuki’s parents were big in their field, but she didn’t know that they were that big. 

 “Hell yeah I wanna go!!” Of course, it’s not like she knew much about fashion beyond what appealed to her and what she saw on instagram, but it wasn’t like you got invited to something like this every day after all, and it was seldom that she turned down the opportunity to hang out with one of her friends. 

 “I might practice a bit- or go skateboarding. That’d be cool, but I feel like that’s what I’ve been doing every weekend y’know?” Should her mother be there, Denki likely would have been scolded for lack of table manners, but as it was it was just her friends and so no one cared enough to correct her elbows on the table. 

 “What about you?” Tawny eyes turn to Katsuki, having already heard everyone else’s weekend plans already.
