In the final debate, Trump said he supports the federal ban on "partial-birth" abortion because it can happen "as late as one or two or three or four days prior to birth." That is not at all likely.

If I could see me now...
Today I had the honor of attending a luncheon as a recipient of a scholarship donated by the foundation of my college. It was a fancy sort of thing in a big ballroom at a fancy hotel downtown. (The kind of thing where you have so many forks you don’t know which one to use first...) It really is an honor to receive one of these scholarships; not everybody gets one and they’re a little hard to come by. I don’t think that the individuals that donated my scholarship will ever truly understand how much even a small donation can mean in the life of a mom/student.
But when I was driving to the hotel in downtown Lincoln where the luncheon was going to be held I really started thinking about how far I’ve come in life. Heaven knows I have a long way to go (actually graduating is a START...) but my little-kid self would be in awe if she could see me now. If 10 year old Stephanie could see 30 year old Stephanie all dressed up (I even wore mascara...) and driving downtown to The Cornhusker to eat lunch with a bunch of other people that were all dressed up; and if 10 year old Stephanie could see 30 year old Stephanie sitting in the ballroom listening to distinguished members of the college and the community; my goodness - 10 year old Stephanie would think “she’s made it!”
The more I look back on my life the more I realize that I have overcome a lot of odds to be where I am today --> three-fourths of the way done with my BSN, supporting myself, engaged, three healthy smart children... A lot of odds were against me (maybe more about that at a later date) and here I am. I wish 10-year-old or 14-year-old or even 25-year-old Stephanie could see me now - hold on girl; some times are going to be tough but you’re going to make it!

Somebody was naughty this morning.... No shame.

Cats are arseholes but we need them to live.
Embrace yourself
Body image is always a hot topic and something that basically everybody struggles with... Of course we have a million things thrown at us every day about how we should or shouldn’t feel, what we should or shouldn’t look like. More recently there are body positive blogs and videos showing up everywhere. We read these blogs and watch these videos about loving yourself the way you are - no matter your color or shape or size. But, to me, it doesn’t seem like people are necessarily living out the truth of these videos. You can watch them and tell people how much you love the body positive movement all you want, but if you don’t actually live and talk and believe that way, what good does it do?
A while back a family member, who has lost a whole bunch of weight by working really hard and eating right and exercising (amazing!), mentioned that she didn’t want to wear a bikini. Presumably, she doesn’t feel like she’s going to look like a Sports Illustrated model or something... But she worked SO hard to feel better and be a healthier person! Why would you not want to show off everything you’ve accomplished?
Beyond size (which tends to be the general aim of the body positive movement) we are judged for our grey hair and stretch marks and wrinkles. We do not have control over ANY of those things - why are we judged for them and why are we trying to hide them?
Recently, I said something about being proud of my grey hair and wrinkles.. One of my friends looked at me and said “that makes you sound so sad and old!” Why do we see grey hair and wrinkles and stretch marks as a bad thing?? Because the magazines that line the shelves at the grocery stores TELL us they’re bad?? They make money by making us feel miserable or like we aren’t good enough.
Here’s the truth of it..
I am proud of my wrinkles. Every single one. I’m not old by any means - but the wrinkles are there. I have crows feet by the corners of my eyes. But you know what? Those crows feet tell me that I have spent 30 years smiling and laughing until my face hurt and i had tears streaming down my face. How lucky am I to have had a life that I can enjoy that much??
Next up - my grey hair! I love it. Maybe love is a little bit of a strong word - but over the last year or so i have grown to embrace it. I have been a stressed out mama and nursing student and fiancee and I’ve earned every strand of grey hair. But mostly ---> it’s genetic! I can’t help it. I could color it I suppose, but I don’t feel like I should have to cover up a part of myself to be considered “enough.”
Final stop - I have massive stretch marks on my stomach. I see the magazines and sometimes question my swimsuit choices. But when I really think about it ad ground myself, the truth is I am so happy and proud of my stretch marks. I have grown three amazing children in my belly. I have been as low as 135 lbs and as high as 195 lbs. All because of these beautiful babies! There are women out there that would do ANYTHING to be able to grow a baby, and I was lucky enough to do it THREE times! Why on earth would I want to hide one SHRED of evidence from that??
Yeah, I do yoga and try to watch what I eat, but it’s not about trying to look a certain way, it’s about FEELING good. I’m not perfect. I don’t feel amazing about all these things every second of every day. But I’m working on it. I think that we should all just look at our so called “flaws” and forget what other people or the media have to say about them; take a look at these things and realize why they’re there. Most things have a beautiful explanation. Embrace it.
First day of school... Last night I had a little freak out. I didn’t cry or yell; I just stayed awake, staring at the ceiling. The upcoming school year is going to be filled with so much change, for me and for my children. Cameron, the oldest of the three, is heading off to middle school. The new school is huge compared to her elementary school and for the first time she will have to navigate the halls between each class period and use a locker with a padlock. I want her to have an amazing first day; I’m afraid of her getting lost and not being able to open her locker. I know that she will feel embarrassed if she ends up in the wrong spot or is late for class or has trouble with her locker, and while something like this may seem simple (Just ask for help!) it is enough to bring her to tears. I so badly want her first day in this new place to be successful. This will also be the first time that Cameron has gone to a completely new school since kindergarten. She will be separated from the friends and teachers that she has grown up with. While I have no doubt that she will be able to make new friends, I am afraid of how easy that will be for her. She is the sweetest and most loving child I have ever met, but she is also painfully shy and sensitive. Any girl that has been to middle school knows that these are the hardest years. Middle school kids are just MEAN. This is when the cliques begin. Let her find good friends that allow her to keep her old soul and kind spirit and still be successful in school and her other activities. Caden, the middle child and the only boy, is heading off to second grade. He is heading off to a familiar place with familiar faces; he has always done a good job in school. While I want him to be successful, I know that he is in the same environment that he has been in for the past two years and so I am less worried about how he will do. His biggest challenge this year will be taking on the big brother role at school; walking his little sister to her spot in the gym every morning before heading off to class himself. This does add an element of responsibility for him, but he is a good big brother and a good student so I know that he will do an amazing job. Charlotte is the youngest of the three and my little baby. This year she takes the big leap and heads off to kindergarten. She is a very smart little girl so I have no doubt that she will have no trouble learning what she is taught. She is also a very free spirited and stubborn little girl so I worry about her sitting for 6 hours, paying attention, and following directions (she likes to do things her own way, when she wants to do them). This is also the last time I will be sending off a child to kindergarten. It’s like the baby is all grown up. I will have to admit that she isn’t a baby, or a toddler, or a preschooler. She’s a full blown big kid, in school all day. Monday will be the first day in over 11 years that I will come home to an empty house. I won’t have to entertain any bored kids. I won’t have to make lunch and endless snacks. I won’t have to worry about the kids being “too quiet” in the next room. All the days of complaining that they were driving me crazy will be long forgotten when I come home and it’s completely silent. I will joke about being glad they’re gone so that I can relax and catch up on my reading and Netflix but I’m sure that the majority of my day will be spent worrying about how they’re all doing, half expecting a phone call about a melt down, and counting down the minutes until I can pick them up and hear about their day.
My beautiful friend Nichole got married this past Saturday so I can finally post the gift I made her. With a bunch of help from my dad, we were able to turn some wood scraps into this entry key hook/mail holder. Turned out pretty good!

I love repurposing and making old things new again - even if it's just for decoration! I love this wine bottle - it's so bad ass! And the black on the bottle looks great with these dried flowers and gold accents. The flowers were a bridesmaid bouquet from a wedding I was in.
My new favorite breakfast! Whole wheat toast, over easy eggs, and whatever assortment of veggies I feel like for the day! All topped with avocado.
I can finally share this because my dear friend Hanna got married last Saturday! Pretty proud of this artwork and I hope it finds a good spot in her home!
Book worm problems...
The problem with reading the Harry Potter books is that the books get larger and larger as you move through the series. This makes it increasingly harder to fit them in my purse and take with me wherever I go.

RAVENCLAW: “I would like for this moment to be for that kid out there who feels like she’s weird or she’s different or she doesn’t fit in anywhere: Yes, you do. I promise you do. You do. Stay weird, stay different.” –Graham Moore
Don't really feel like life is handing me lemons - but this made me giggle.
