THROUGH THE GOOGLING-GLASS

I took this video at the Phil Dev Foundation's IDEA Symposium last week using Glass. For an entrep/techie geek like me, it was sort of like the Oscars of the local tech industry. Sharing this with the Pinoy startup community who could use encouraging words from our entrep rockstars :)

The quality is iffy, probably because I chose to downgrade it to a mobile friendly format I could upload with my 3G. I love being able to take first-person videos like these, I should probably do more in the future!

Several reasons why this cake video was an epic failure: 1. Leftover cake - somebody already took a slice out of it!  2. No birthday candles - we settled with two huge ass brownout candles instead HAHA  3. Candles kept falling over - couldn't keep them steady, we had to hold them na lang  4. Me shouting like a girl at 0:38 LOL

Filipino Google Glass Explorer Carlos Miguel Lasa shares his experiences with Google's latest wearable computer

I took this photo yesterday when we ate out at a local Japanese buffet in honor of Lola after her 9th day of passing (we Filipinos call it the pasiyam) and to celebrate my sister and cousin's back-to-back birthdays.

I just recently learned how take vignettes (like the Glass screenshot in the corner of the photo) and was amused to find another use case for Glass while grilling some teppanyaki!

See those packets of aluminum foil stewing on the grill? They have prawns swimming in garlic and butter inside, and must be stewed for exactly 4 minutes to ensure the prawns are properly cooked. With Glass around, I found that there's no need to pull out my phone or look at my watch when I have a timer counting down right in the corner of my eye!

Was really fortunate to attend the 2014 Crunchies, especially since I got to see John Oliver in the flesh! He's one of the reasons why I tune in to the Daily Show!

GLASS AT STANFORD - RUN, DINNER, AND HIGH SCHOOL KIDS

After the SEALNet forum, we decided to go for a quick run. I launched the Strava app, but then it started drizzling so I had to run back to the car and leave my Glass behind. Such a shame, it would've been a great way to tour the Stanford campus, but I didn't want to test the limits of how water-resistant Glass was at that point.

Once we finished up our run we dropped by the school cafeteria to see what they were serving up in Stanford. Decided to grab some Panda Express, when I saw all these kids in formalwear. Turns out there was some sort of open house for high school kids that day. And that's when I learned who the most exuberant people are when it comes to Google Glass. 

Was in line in Jamba Juice when this group of Indian kids in front of me saw me wearing Glass. Cue the oohs, aahs and genuine fascination. They ask to borrow it, so I hand it to one of them and I try my best to be as nonchalant about it as I can. I love kids. But I was on the edge of my seat hoping they wouldn't break my Glass!

GLASS AT STANFORD - FORUM ON THE FUTURE OF SOUTHEAST ASIA

FIRST EVENT WITH GLASS: STARTUP & TECH MIXER @ W HOTEL SF

This was probably the most interesting startup event I've been to, San Francisco def knows how to throw a party! Putting the ballerinas and the mechanical bulls aside, there were some panels on Bitcoin (meh) and Social Good (so-so) - but the most interesting talk would probably have been Victoria Bellotti's from Xerox PARC on the Kindness Economy (hit those search engines right now!)... 

That evening after picking up my Glasses I had dinner with an old classmate, Pepper, who now works as an immigration lawyer in San Francisco. It was good catching up with him, and Google Glass was a perfect conversation filler for those awkward silences when meeting up with old friends. Hehe.

On the way back to my car, I took my first video with Glass. I read in reviews that recording video takes a toll on the battery life, which is probably why Google limits the recording time to 10 seconds (you can extend it though by pressing the camera button on the device).
