In your eyes what was Doflamingo thinking during Lami and Laws test? Also who made the better grade? I mean Law had no hesitancy but I think Lami showed more commitment to do what Doffy asked. She made sure he was dead. I mean to him she probably doesn't know what haki is. So to him she wouldn't know that other people can have it. So she wouldn't know Doffy knows she can sense when people are still alive in Doffys mind. But she made sure the man was dead anyways because that's the test. Law won't hesitate but Lami has the commitment to always make sure the job she's asked to do is done.
Doflamingo was very amused.
For the most part, the test was more a curiosity on how the siblings would react in that situation. Lami was definitely overthinking it, though Senor was right in that the test was unorthodox because of how quickly the siblings are advancing through stages of recruitment--Doflamingo is basically saying "I'm willing to invest in you, prove your worth" at this point.
Skill, loyalty, guts--Doflamingo already knows that the kids have these qualities to them, he just needs to know if he can utilize them.
He got exactly what he expected out of Law, which is exactly what he wanted. Law has proven himself as someone who is willing to do whatever for the sake of the Donquixote, no questions asked. In fact, clearly he's looking for more. There's a hunger to Law that Doflamingo finds very intriguing and familiar. It's exactly what Doflamingo would want in a protégé, in his right hand man.
Lami's contradictory, though. Which is kind of infuriating because of how much potential she has as a combatant and strategist. A child her age with haki? Sounds pretty familiar to Doflamingo. Unfortunately, her actions are more difficult for him to anticipate so he's been needling her into reactions to see just how beneficial she can be for him. The fact that Lami stayed behind when the man was dying (but not dead) was a stroke of chance, but something that Doflamingo found quite curious and telling about Lami.
Like you said, he doesn't expect Lami to know what is happening or what haki is--but she acts too suspicious to not be aware of what it entails to some degree, even if she is just reacting instinctively most of the time. Doflamingo can read peoples intent as well, after all, and Lami--well. She can hide her presence but she's pretty shit at hiding her intent.
He's having fun trying to figure out this puzzle.
It's becoming more clear to him that Lami's behaviour isn't contingent on a moral compass as much as it is about her hating to have no control. Underneath the distant, apathetic mask she's stubborn, sneaky, and prideful. She showed that she was willing to make sure the job was done, sure, but she did it in a way that was childish and sardonic. Lami is more defiant than he was anticipating, which isn't exactly a good thing for a pirate crew like the Donquixote.
In this vein, Law got the better grade but his eyes are on Lami.
