Was really into this EP this past year. Is it jazz? Electronica? Ambient? Whatever it is, I don’t care. I like it.
Just discovered that The Delgados, a band I was obsessed with back in 2003, played a series of reunion shows in January. I would’ve flown to the UK and gone to one in a heartbeat! Will just listen to this gem today instead.
I did have the privilege of seeing them once back then- at the legendary Bimbo’s 365 in San Francisco no less.
Instantly hooked on this track within the first 5 seconds. All of my favorite sounds.
Fave album of 2022. No second thoughts about it!

Easy sophisti-pop!
This band’s description on Spotify is: “Babel is about making our very own version of Cocteau Twins.” 😍😍😍

Funky sophisto-pop.
Something very 90’s going on here that I like.
I think I’m going to like this “autobiography” album, “The Fellowship,” from Joseph Shabason based on this title track alone.
Lighter and more whimsical than some of his other stuff, but it fits with this more hopeful mood I’m currently in.
This album defies any single genre, but I hear a lot of influences that sound familiar and fit into my palette. There are definitely some experimental/avant-grade loops that sound like Arthur Russell. His voice also reminds me of Russell, and Jens lekman, at times. There are also elements that make me think of 90’s rock (a la REM), and then some R&B elements as well. There’s also a good deal of 70’s/80’s easy listening/loungey sounds. Maybe 2020 has driven me insane and I no longer know what I’m talking about. Either way, I’m enjoying this album immensely and it’s pulling me out of a rut!

It’s been a minute. I was too overwhelmed with the state of the world to keep up with sharing music. Not that the world is any better right now, but I think I realized that music is a coping mechanism for me, and I’m re-engaging with my own need to process the shittiness of the world through listening to music that allows me to release these inexplicable feelings I feel. This one captures my mood/feeling right now.
Joseph Shabason is (was?) a member of Canadian band DIANA, and also has a solo catalogue. If I had to describe his sound, it’s sort of experimental new-age pop with a lot of sax. He also just released an album with one of my favorites, Nicholas Krgovich, and Chris Harris (who is new to me). It’s got the same sort of new age vibe, based on the one track I’ve heard. Definitely going to dive in a little deeper...
