It's more than a seam

The B E S T scissors to use when cutting any form of fabric! These cut like butter and create such a wonderful and pain free experience when handling difficult fabrics such as wool, silk and cotton! I defiantly would recommend these as they work flawlessly!

Sometimes fashion is poetry and that is what this Frankenstein dress does. Not only is it conceptually unbalanced, but it is also unexpected. Sacai’s Chitose Abe is known as the creator of this trend, however it can be linked back to the renaissance. This design concept is a great example of repurposing fabrics and understanding how to utilize the leftovers. Fashion is one of the greatest contributors to waste and to upcycle fabrics can not only help preserve the planet, but challenge the designer into creating something more impactful.

This is validated as designers such as Calvin Klein, Raf Simons and Junya Watanabe all incorporated this trend in their current collections. This is a statement within the fashion industry that exemplifies the state it is currently in.  With fashion being the perfect example of repletion, it is hard to experiment with seams when almost everyone and everything is being referenced. With the Frankenstein dress, this allows not only the seams to speak but also the fabrication. Why did the designer choose such a conflicting combination? What was it that they saw in this and how can I find the beauty in it? These are all questions that come into one’s mind when viewing these garments but I find the critical thinking refreshing. The fashion world needs an awakening and this trend might be it.

She’s broke. $2 Billion to be exact. Claire’s became the central hub for first piercings in the late 60's. The retailer was known for carrying moderately priced jewelry and trendy accessories that catered to every girls teenage dream. Claire’s is suffering the consequences of a 3.1 Billion dollar buyout in 2007 and is taking the hits in being late on payments. The company is negotiating and has failed to make any public comment on the subject. With its major dependency on malls, it is rare to find a stand alone Claire’s and its affects are showing as its numbers continue to decline. However, accessories are fashion too and Claire’s has something that a lot of major retailers don’t. History. Claire’s hits a special place in everyone’s heart and is associated with a special moment for many people. Which is getting their ears pierced for the first time. This is something that Claire’s is known for and if they take that little piece and expand more on the customer and their experience maybe they can save the company. Or at least give it a facelift. I have hope in Claire’s and their hidden gems, but in the meantime expect some good sales!

A Yorkers Top 5: Trend Watching NYFW Being a fan of TheCut, I naturally went to their website in search of some inspiration. I’ve been feeling a lack of motivation when it comes to my work and I always find street wear to be a true source of what’s going on in fashion today. This is where I found Youngjun Koo’s photography. His post captures over 200 photos of amazing people wearing some amazing stuff! Fashion And Technology – Where is it going?

 The art of social media created a world that now exists in the palm of our hands. With only a hashtag away, one can find anything and everything. With or without technology, the fashion industry stands on its own and that’s something a hashtag can never do.

It may have all started with McQueen, who introduced robot arms in his Spring/Summer show of 1999. A model walks down the runway in a flared out white dress, only to be violated by the paint of the two arms. The performance piece became an iconic symbol representing the inevitable.  Let’s fast forward to this year’s spring fashion shows, where we can see that incorporating tech into fashion still lives on today. Philipp Plein decided to open his 2018 show with a model walking side by side with a robot that Vogue described as “Optimus Prime”. This wasn’t just arms anymore; this was functioning machine that can walk a runway just as well as the world’s hottest supermodel.  

Are we even needed?

This theory isn’t just taboo. This year, Dolce and Gabbana sent down drones on their runway! Each drone carried a handbag as they flew one by one like butterflies. There wasn’t a model in sight. This choice of presentation was a chilling one as it set the tone of the future that is coming more evident each day. 

Fashion has always been the epitome of “now” and is always finding ways to progress. Designers strive to be current and this is now being translated into clothes.

Where is it going? Will robots be models now? Will clothing have the ability to turn into more than a seam? Who knows!
