Miles of endless identical copies, clones of some distorted thing that nonetheless bears a resemblance to you, grotesquely inflated sex organs, made to be doused in poison so as to be kept pure and uncontaminated by any other plant. The maize is listening, but for what? Only the machines of the harvest. This corn does not have the tiniest of chances to become anything new, no hope for another kind of life, no hope for a child of theirs to thrive. They are perfect in every way, and live only to die and to be replaced by a perfect copy, in every way the same as what came before.
