Queen of the Dead part 2, 124
In The Homeric Hymn to Demeter, Demeter herself takes Demophoon from the hearth and places him on the ground when Metaneira interrupts the ritual, which implies that this magic could only be worked in secret. It says nothing about the child dying. However, some scholars argue that the hymn-poet clearly alludes to his approaching death by using the word aspaironta for when he is left gasping on the floor, a word used elsewhere of dying heroes. In other versions of the story, the child is immediately burnt up in the fire when the ritual is interrupted (Apollodorus Bibliotheca 1.5.1 and Orphic frag. 49, 100ff). In Hyginus Fabulae it is the father, here named Eleusinius, who interrupts the ritual. He was killed by the angry goddess, but the child (who here is Triptolemus) was honored by Demeter and was given her chariot with flying serpents to spread the cultivation of grain to rest of humanity.
This was one of the hardest pages in part 2 to draw, because I really didn't want Demophoon to die. But at the same time I realized that his death was necessary to push Demeter into putting her second plan into action.

Thank YOU for reading Your Green Palm in Mine!
Scroll down to see the original attempt at this drawing I did back in August, a day or two before I started production on the comic!
Past few weeks have been a blur and I have neglected posting on Tumblr. Whoops! I’ll try to get back on that. In the same breath, I’ve been taking a well deserved break from drawing and posting.
I don’t really remember what I already have written regarding my sappy feelings about making this comic… but I’ll try to cover new ground. I was at my absolute worst when I started the production of YGPIM- without getting too much into it, it was very much a “I’ll do something to fill the time before my set date I plan to leave this world” kinda project. I had been going through an intense health flare, I was in pain, and too weak to move or accomplish much. My garden was a failure as I couldn’t maintain it, and the realization the dreams I had would never be attainable absolutely broke me. I could never seem to finish my art, much less write anything… so why was I here. I’d never impact anyone because I believed I was incapable of creating anything.
But yet, here I am. I made a webcomic! I FINISHED A WEBCOMIC! I FINISHED IT IN EIGHT MONTHS? I’ve impacted countless people, my health has turned up! I run, I garden, I go out with my wonderful friends, I cook, I sew, I play with my dog, I live! I’m alive!! I never expected all this to happen, especially at my worst. But here I am! Here we are!
So thank you, all of you. For everything. It’ll be a bit before I touch comics again- my summers are busy. But I hope to return to them this fall.

Asks that got perfectly cut off in my notification list and will not be opened because anything that comes after this combination of words put in that order is, by definition, victim blaming Nazi/Holocaust apologia and is irrelevant. Imagine typing this out. "Better behave, Jew, or we'll do it again." Absolutely the fuck not. If you want to genocide Jews you will now find yourself dealing with the IDF, and that's the meaning of "Never Again". Cope harder.
We've been hated by the whole world for 3700 years, there's nothing that can be done to change this except to defend ourselves against it, with force.
Jews no longer care about "not being hated" by people like that. Because there's nothing they can do to change their mind anyway
George Orwell said years ago that there was no point in trying to change an antisemite's mind because if they listened to reason, they wouldn't be so singularly obsessed with Jews.
You can't logic a person out of a position they didn't logic their way into.

can you imagine being Rapunzel's birth parents during the main events of the movie?
Like it's your daughter's 18th birthday, the same daughter that you haven't seen since she was born. You're preparing to celebrate her birthday, your yearly tradition, when someone steals the crown you had made for your baby when she was born. The last thing you have left of her.
Obviously, you send every soldier that can be spared to retrieve the crown, to bring back some semblance of your daughter, but they are unsucsessful. but then, after you light the lanterns and retire to your chambers with grief, news comes in. The man who stole the crown has returned, and you order his execution. The next day, he escapes, riding on the best guard in your stables, and before you can make light of the situation, he returns, but this time he does not have the crown. He has your daughter, the one you lost 18 years ago.
