I'm so close to having a coherent thought about this, but I find it very interesting how violent behaviour is viewed in characters, versus other sorts of antisocial behaviour (-phobias, -isms, etc). maybe it's the perceived separation from reality? because if you're lucky, nobody in your life will ever slit anyone's throat, so you get to view it as an abstract and fantastical action. it's pure play! whereas if a character says something like "you look fat in those jeans", BAM! instant hatred, because now you can link it to painful moments in your own life. even though the people you've heard those words from (moms, aunties, grandmas) are probably people that you still love.

which is why you get all these books that embrace hyper violence but flinch away from any -phobias and -isms, because that would be uncomfortable.

what makes the dissonance especially jarring is that viewing violence as abstract is a privilege. in Canada and the States, we get to sit comfortably in our homes while our governments fund weapons and send troops to inflict violence overseas. and sure, we can watch a genocide live-streamed on social media, but it still feels distant.

don't confuse this as me saying violence shouldn't be written about! everything should be written about! it's more me wondering why violence feels comfortable to write about, when arguably milder social offences do not.

Because they don't really process those types of immoralities because #it's so distant from their reality they can only think of it in the very fictional way #I'm not saying you should only like righteous and good characters. But I feel like people need to #realize that different people will have different thresholds for liking or not a character and egging on someone for voicing dislike about #character because they find that character too irredeemable in their eyes is not cool anyways.#Also that comment about how violence is much closer to reality to people that are not the white suburban Americans is also true #like I'm sorry but I live in Brazil people get shot or stabbed or beaten to death very often in my city in my neighborhood or nearby places #I will not think that it's all that cool if a character is violent because uhh it's not a cool experience imho and I do not feel comfortabl #around that subject because it is legit a thing I have a mild fear of happening. Like just getting killed in a robbery or beaten to death #for being trans or any other situations. I'm going to say it again:

"Men are dangerous" is 100% patriarchal rhetoric.

The patriarchy does everything it can to train men to be dangerous. It creates a toxic version of masculinity that only profits and privileges men who choose to be dangerous. It does everything it can to put men into positions where they can be dangerous.

Which means that danger is artificially constructed.

Men are not dangerous because they're male. Men are not dangerous because they're masculine. Masculinity and manhood are not dangerous things.

The dangerous version of masculinity sold by the patriarchy is a social construct that can, in fact, be opted out of. Men and masculine people can construct a masculinity that is not toxic, that does not promote violence, that is centered around healthy relationships and communication and helping others.

Building a healthy, vibrant vision of masculinity is absolutely a part of feminism. I'm not saying it needs to be done by women - do not twist this into a claim that I'm attempting to burden women with remaking masculinity. Men can be feminists. Men who are feminists are eager and willing and actively taking part in the act of ripping masculinity away from the patriarchy and reforming it into something new.

racism can and does impact interracial couples, both from within and from outside the relationship. the issue with woke antimiscegenation is that it assumes this is an insurmountable issue that makes interracial relationships inherently problematic (at best) or fundamentally incompatible (at worst). it also assumes that there are strict and definable lines between racial groups which simply isn’t the case in any country on this planet because race itself is fundamentally superficial.

it’s one thing to discuss how racism impacts interracial relationships and how couples navigate those issues but it’s giving david duke to suggest that the mere fact that a couple is interracial makes the relationship inherently suspect.

There's a hypothesis apparently that a lot of the time, infertility in people with ovaries & a uterus might be a consequence of gynecologists not doing their job and I can definitely see that being true.

When you come it with a complaint about irregular, heavy or painful periods, that could've been an opportunity to look into whether there's an underlying condition and treating that condition early, but because the standard approach in the field right now is to just prescribe you birth control and nothing else, those conditions go undiagnosed and by the time the person is ready to have children but can't, it's often much more difficult to treat the underlying condition.

#didn't they just rename PCOS as PMOS after a huge research that showed that most people with ovaries don't actually show the cystic part of #syndrome and it's not just an ovarian problem but a general endocrine systems issue? not to be conspiratory but I'd not be surprised #if this condition affected WAY more people. Because yes it does cause heavy and painful periods and also infertility #tw: medical misogyny
