it's genuinely scary seeing so many people repeat that "veganism has just as much negative environmental impact as eating meat" like. no. no, every single serious environmentalist organisation agrees that a significant reduction in animal agriculture, if not the outright abolition of farming certain species of ruminants, is necessary for a habitable planet. every couple of months we get a new study which finds vegan diets to have the least-negative environmental impact. who told you otherwise, and what was the source of their data?
It's literally the same tactics used to try and subvert green energy. "Renewable energy is just as bad as fossil fuels, because wind turbines are loud and might kill birds, and solar panels have silicon in them, and we need batteries!" it's acting as though these issues - though they are worthy of consideration - are in any way equivalent to "this industry cannot sustain itself at current production levels and, if those levels are not significantly reduced, will lead to our planet no longer being habitable for our species"
