sweets in 8x16: *listens to kat and reassures her that that her rape wasn’t her fault, feels immense guilt about having to turn her over to police to the point that he brings it up again in season 9, tells her about his own abuse so that she feels less alone and knows that he’s not just preaching out of his ass, pledges to her that he’ll catch her rapist to make up for being dishonest with her, works together with brennan and angela to actually catch the rapist by meticulously retracing kat’s steps throughout the party where she was assaulted, is the one to sit down with kat and her mom and deliver the news and tell her unsympathetic mom that she needs support in order to recover from what happened*

another thing that bothers me about the way sweets and hodgins’s relationship went is that in season 5, there are a lot of scenes/episodes where hodgins is shockingly gentle to sweets. he lets sweets vent to him and tells sweets to take care of himself after the subway crash, he reassures sweets when he’s feeling insecure about his love life, he shows obvious concern for sweets’s feelings when he finds out daisy’s going to leave, and he gives sweets a really genuine apology when he ends up having to leave sweets behind after stealing the car in the season finale. like yeah he still teases him and is his usual abrasive self, but as a whole he tends to put a lot of energy into making sure sweets is okay.
