He was struggling.
It was another “prank” played by those people, by who his teacher called “his friends.”
“ Look at him! He’s shaking, ” one of them cried. “Bet you he’s gonna wet his pants,” said another.
He grit his teeth and ignored their words. The sooner he could get out of this, the better. Mom would be worried if he wasn’t home on time.
( She won’t be home, she’ll be out working. There’s not enough for just the two of you. )
There was the taste of something oddly metallic settling against his tongue. He’d bitten his lip trying to shake away the thought. He had to ignore them; ignore everyone. He just needed to get home now.
