As tends to be the case, the point was unfortunately buried in the resultant narrative.
I borrow words.
Little phrases that improve my ability to convey the way I feel and live my life.
I don't know if I'm autistic, but I know I'm overstimulated, and I know I'm taking this too literally, and I know I'm stimming right now.
I don't know if I'm aromantic, but I know this might be a squish, and I know I want a queerplatonic relationship, and I know I might be romance-averse.
I don't know if I have ADHD, but I know I'm hyperfixating, and I know I struggle with transitions, and I know out of sight will be out of mind.
I don't know how to end this,
To paraphrase,
The words that we use to describe ourselves and the world around us are powerful and dangerous.
Having access to language that validates and vindicates our experience, and describes vital parts of our identities, enables us
To build support networks and communities
And to be taken seriously when our rights are being violated
And to tell the people we love who we actually are.
We are no longer formless and amorphous
And I even recognize myself in the fucking mirror
I've determined to write this one in full sentences, without an esoteric lilt, in pursuit of clarity and intention.
I find I present myself differently to the various groups in my life, severely enough that at times it causes me to question the authenticity of my character.
I've realized, though, that this compartmentalization takes place in other (potentially more useful) aspects of my way of living life, too.
I worry for the sanity of any therapist reading this, but I seem to be well-enough adjusted, so at least I have that going for me.
To clarify, I'm hesitant to characterize or categorize myself, probably to a fault. Which is ironic, given how often I seek out these exact things.
But, I (like anybody) am not without my contradictions, so I've learned to shrug my shoulders and acknowledge that such is life.
I've been told I live my life generally "at ease," which is often mistranslated as "unconcerned."
Rather, I have learned to accommodate a baseline level of concern that would surely give the uninitiated a harrowing panic attack.
I fear the midnight indecisiveness has struck
I find myself writing in my notes app just to delete it all and feel ashamed
That what I wrote too garishly bares my soul
Or perhaps this is really not me at all
Where was I?
It's interesting how full I feel alone when all I can bring myself to share feels empty
Like the real me is too shameful to let into the light
Sometimes I remember how common I am
He too has had these thoughts
He too has had these struggles
He too has lived my life
But sometimes I recall all the things I hide away
See I'm doing it again
This house of flesh and bones and memories is mine alone
No one can take that from me, even when I wish that someone could
And again
Even a small weight lifted will lighten the load
The pieces we pick up and carry for our loves
Not amore but agape
Those for whom we grieve the little things

I need you to see this for what it is
I need you to see me
To see what I am scared to show
To see what I myself can not acknowledge
I need you to see this for what it is
But how can I ask such a thing
Knowing that it is an impossible task
Knowing that I myself have failed
I need you to see this for what it is
Not because I believe that you can
But because I know that I cannot
I need you to be what I am not
I need you to see this for what it is
I need you to see me for what I am
I need you to see for me
I need you to see me
I need you to see
I need you
I need you
I need you
Sometimes, it's the small things.
The little gestures that mean so much
Them remembering the foods you don't like when you go out to eat together
Or reminiscing about a moment you shared that nobody else in the room would understand
Or laughing when you embarrass yourself
Becaue you have to admit that it really was funny
And they'll have plenty of chances to make the same little dumb mistake
And you'll laugh about it then too, because it will still be just as funny as when it happened to you.
But sometimes, it's the small things.
The little jokes that are made in passing but leave you feeling torn down and worthless all the same
That message that you thought would mean so much to them but was left on read for hours with not so much as a pitiful default "like"
A "but you aren't" from someone you hold dear but who you just haven't told yet
Because you know that even though they'll act kind they'll never see you the same way again.
But
What if
I could be yours
And you mine
Not in a "boyfriend, girlfriend" sort of way
And not in a "husband, wife" sort of way
And not in a "seeing each other" way either
But in the way that
I want you
I want to be there for when your head or your stomach or your joints or your body aches and the medicine doesn't help so can somebody please just hold me close? And of course I can, because I'm here for you and I know that I can't make it better but I will always be here for you even if that's the only thing that I'm able to do
I want to be there for when the noises are a little too loud and the lights are a little too bright and something about the way it smells in here is wrong and it's all too much and the words won't come out right and can't somebody see that I need help? And I don't know what's wrong but I can see that something is and even if you can't tell me what's wrong or what you need I know that something has to change and if I can do something about that then I will because even though it's cold outside the noises are a little less loud and the lights are a little less bright and you are feeling a little bit better and that makes me feel so much warmer than a little bit of cold could ever take away from me and you will always be worth it
And if I'm cold I will bundle up but if you're cold I would wear shorts in a blizzard if it meant you would be warm
And for all I know you might barely know that I exist, and even though that means I might never have the chance to tell you how I wish my hand in yours would soothe the worries of a harsh indifferent world, or how I wish your head on my chest as you sleep can feel my heart beating slightly faster than usual because deep down it's not hard to see that this is love, or how I would give up shotgun to sit in the backseat of the smallest car if you were sat beside me, or how laying on the couch with my dog snuggled close I can't help but think that I wish that us too could be this close
close in the sort of way where there's not the remotest question of why this love is here. It's always been, and it's not about friendship or romance or sex or a sense of family. It's just love, and we don't ask why, and that works just fine.
For
i am but
a weary
traveler;
in this world,
in this life,
and in this;
the face of Death.
not to judge
as is man;
as am i.
uncaring,
unseeing,
blinded eye;
yet I am Seen.
Time is healing;
this that our wounds of knowledge crave, but to be knowledgeable
Time is death;
this that our wounds of wisdom fear, but to be wise
Time is suffering;
this that our wounds of solace crave, but to be alone
Time is wisdom;
this that our wounds of community obey, but to be together
Time is inertia;
this that our wounds of stubbornness resist, but to be unchanged

To my love
The light that fills my life, yet that I do or can or will not, ever truly see. Even to believe is not enough though surely it must be. It cannot be not. For if it were, or ostensibly were not, how could it be so? To cry paradox is as the fool, for surely even that which cannot be seen can be known. For so bright as our sun, even when we see not so little as the moon, is felt, inconsequential as it may be. But truly not, though we believe it to be. Perhaps in this way as many it is our familiarity which blinds us, as the sun, but not the moon which proves the sun, but even in the darkness the light. This blindness irreconcilable only as we make it, and yet we. With what purpose, for what cause? For this blindness causes none but pain, as we cannot see. But how can we see this? Or feel, as more earnestly we cannot see. Or can we not earnestly see? Not, that earnestly we can see, but that we cannot see earnestly. | As I dedicate this work of illiterature not to my lover, but to my love. For if my lover were to be, as surely they may, this for they should be not. As perhaps it is all, for naught, but of course it cannot be for naught, for not less than being is already unaccomplished.
Is it selfish? This meaningless tribute to a nonexistent figment of my own longing, an image of myself made with none of my own characteristics? An antihero so to speak, though certainly that is egocentric as it considers myself to be the hero. Is it too far-fetched to think that I might be the villain? Or, minimally, the anti-hero? Not opposing what is right, but certainly in opposition with the right. Or, if I am the hero, certainly a tragic one. But, is it not selfish to consider myself either the hero or the villain? "It's hard to be someone, and it hurts to be nobody." Would it not be rational to consider that in all likelihood I am irrelevant? A mere side-character, if represented at all. Or is it all a matter of perspective? Maybe we are all the main character within our own story. How can we be so bold as to claim a universal perspective? Or perhaps there is an objective truth. Does the sun orbit the earth? It is rather difficult to refuse to acknowledge the truth when the truth is known to all. But how can we claim that there is an objective truth? This question, one to which we beg to receive an answer, yet fundamentally unanswerable by its very nature. Must we even receive an answer? We are certainly not entitled to an answer by some cosmic entity, should such a being even exist.
Is it normal to wish that you were not yourself? Certainly it feels normal, but perhaps it is that very sense of normalcy which is abnormal. Who is to say? In fact, how can such a question be answered? The very nature of language's vagueness prohibits an answer. What is meant by normal? There is undoubtedly a specific connotation around the word, but words are situational. More, words are personal- formed by the very experiences of our lives and the emotions we attach to them. Certainly there is a sort of blunt utility to words, a means to an end for the purpose of simply getting a point across, however they can be and in fact are so much more. Many people liken music to an expression of art, an intimate telling of a personal tale, different upon each performance and holding a new significance to each performer. Is it too unreasonable to see language as much the same? A performance of words, intricate and beholden to the personal whims of the speaker. Certainly speech is akin to music, possessing not only the vigor and intimacy of music, but also its more observable properties, such as rhythm and meter, pitch, intonation, and variability. Further though, even without these qualities speech holds an unimaginable quantity of character and intimacy, being as established so fundamentally rooted in personal experience. This form of language as detached from speech need not even be imagined, as unlike our ancestors for a long portion of history, and much unlike the other species of animals with whom we share this finite earth, humans have established a means of presenting thought far beyond the scope and ability of our meek flesh. The written word: language detached from the body, yet perhaps carrying on wings of paper or binary the soul. Is it unfounded to claim that the expressions of self we find written rather than spoken carry nonetheless the same weight and gravitas? Yet many would claim a word spoken possesses more character, conveying in observably the same unit of language more information to the recipient. Yet is that not the inherent beauty of the unspoken word? It leaves its intentions shrouded in a sense of mistique, allowing the imagination to take flight. Even in cases of bland and informational communication, language is filtered, both by the source and the destination, as all language must be interpreted. It is undeniable that every individual has their own perception of the world, built through an inherently irreplicable amalgamation of unique genetic factors and world experiences. Yet, in spite of insurmountable odds, still doggedly I ask...
Why do I pretend to be something that I am not?
Am I just putting on a performance?
If
Is this love?
Or is it just friendship?
Is it just to call what this is just friendship?
Or is it perhaps that what we call friendship is love, and you, my lover?
Rest well, my weary friend,
And know that in the morning you still will be loved.

Manifesto of the Technologically Fatigued
I wish that I had tried the bergamot tea.
The Accident (me)
...that feeling where you can't stop replaying something in your mind? Chastising yourself for the millions of things you could have done different or how much better it could be if you would have just
Stop. Things are what they will be and thinking rationally
But the messy coup inside my head has little regard for rational thought.
Was it a moment? Can the origin be pinpointed to a single moment at fault? To blame?
It would be convenient, and if that isn't the goal then the infomercials must have something backwards.
So of course it must be convenience, because They have nothing but our best interest in mind
That mystical sack of flesh and lightning to which we are indebted
If not enslaved
My limbs shocked into obedience by their master, not malevolent but disregarding of whether this is what they want
As if they can want
As if we can want, though of course we can
The infomercials know this fact better than most
Though of course what we want we cannot know
And what we know we seem to want we sometimes understand is not what we need
Do we want what we do not need?
Or perhaps is it that we need what we do not want?
The brain can tell you.
Because of course the brain thinks rationally.
