Let's overcome the violence with education
In this weekend, my mind was full of many trouble thoughts. Some jobs to finish at work, some books to read before an exam, many doubts about the future of journalism in Brazil.
Why am I so worry about journalism in Brazil? I don’t know if I’m right. I really want to be wrong about this, but more and more I see columnists talking about bullshit or with superficial analysis. I’m talking about my town, Fortaleza. We are 5th city more unequal in the WORLD. 13th city more violent in the WORLD. We have more violence, proportionaly, than Sao Paulo. What would we have to say in our articles? Social analysis and studies about our relations with the city and other people.
Instead, we only read violent speeches about statics or violent speeches against ourselves. Obviously, we are the responsibles for this. We are unable to talk about our problems without that same violence that we see everyday. Our journalists write about this violence with a ridiculus distance, putting that situation in a bottle and seeing that like a little rampage that we deal only sometimes. In a sunday morning when another person attacks your wallet or cell phone, for example.
In this way, we will be harder people in a couple years. We will be a Brazilian Paradox, sharing happiness with tourists and sharing rancor and bad thoughts with our neighbors. Before we come to this, we need to do something. We need look at our city with some peaceful thoughts.
I remebered this video in this weekend.
Rubem Alves is a great Brazilian thinker. I promisse you that I’ll translate this video to English.
