@valesays
His heart was racing. Holden hadn't thought things could deteriorate any further until he heard that voice message. The hurt in Valentina's voice broke him. Over and over as her voice replayed through his mind.
'iβm just sitting here waiting for you to break my h-heart'
'i watched you do this with autumn for years.'
'iβll just be some idiot sitting at home with our baby.'
'...giving me hope when you already know how this ends is mean. itβs cruel.'
His chest clenched with the realization that he hadn't known the ending Valentina so firmly believed was coming. Holden had just been lost since coming back from Ohio, disenchanted that the stint in rehab had changed anything for the better as intended - everything just continued to fall apart more and more by the day, and he couldn't do a thing to stop it. He had been miserable.
Except, he had been coming to find out, when he was with his family. And he'd be damned if he was going to lose it now.
He barely turned off his truck when he parked at the complex and rushed from the its cab to head up to Teddy's place, heart hammering so hard by the time he got to the door he was sure it would explode right out of his chest. "Vally?" he asked almost meekly as he knocked. "Can we just talk? Please?" he begged the closed door.
