Confederate Monuments Are Coming Down Across the Country.
Here’s a List.
Baltimore
Four monuments removed
The mayor of Baltimore, Catherine Pugh, ordered the removal of four monuments to the era of the Confederacy, saying it was in the interest of public safety after the violence in Charlottesville. The statues were taken down before dawn on Wednesday.
Durham, N.C.
Confederate soldier monument toppled by protesters
Protesters pulled down a statue of a Confederate soldier in front of the Durham County Courthouse in Durham, N.C., on Monday. The statue, which had stood since 1924, was protected by a special law and state police have arrested four protesters since its removal.
Gainesville, Fla.
Monument to Confederate soldiers removed
A local chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy paid for the removal of a monument to Confederate soldiers that stood in front of Alachua County Administration Building in downtown Gainesville for 113 years. The monument, known locally as “Old Joe,” was moved to a private cemetery outside the city, according to The Gainesville Sun.
New Orleans
Four monuments removed
New Orleans removed four monumentsdedicated to the Confederacy and opponents of Reconstruction in April. City workers who took them down wore flak jackets, helmets and masks and were guarded by police because of concerns about their safety.
Annapolis
Calls for removal of Roger B. Taney statue
The governor of Maryland, Larry Hogan, called for a statue of Supreme Court Chief Justice Roger B. Taney to be removed from the statehouse grounds in Annapolis. Justice Taney was the chief author of the 1857 Dred Scott decision, which ruled that African-Americans, both enslaved and free, could not be American citizens.
Charlottesville, Va.
Proposal to remove monument to Gen. Robert E. Lee
Violence erupted on Saturday at a far-right protest against the proposed removal of a statue of Robert E. Lee, a Confederate general, from Emancipation Park in Charlottesville, Va. Thirty-four people were injured in clashes and one person was killed when a Nazi sympathizer plowed his car into a crowd of counter-protesters, the authorities said. The statue has not been removed.
Jacksonville
Proposal to remove multiple Confederate monuments
The president of Jacksonville City Council, Anna Lopez Brosche, called for all Confederate monuments to be moved from city property to a museum. The most prominent Confederate memorial in Jacksonville is a statue of a Confederate soldier that sits atop a towering pillar in Hemming Park.
Lexington, Ky.
Two Confederate monuments slated for removal
On Tuesday, the City Council in Lexington, Ky., unanimously approved a proposal to remove two Confederate statues from the city’s historic courthouse. The mayor, Jim Gray, has 30 days to propose a new location for the statues, whose removal must be approved by the Kentucky Military Heritage Commission.
Washington, D.C.
Proposal to introduce bill to remove Confederate statues from U.S. Capitol building
Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey tweeted late Wednesday that he plans on introducing a bill to remove Confederate statues from the U.S. Capitol building. There are at least 12 Confederate statues in the National Statuary Hall Collection of the Capitol building.
Hell Yeah!
REBLOG IF YOU WANT ALL OF THEM TO BE REMOVED
YES YES YES!!!
good news
February 2016, a white girl in my Race and Minority Studies class told me to my face that she was a trump supporter. she denied racism even being an issue in the campaign while at the same time admiring “how smart I was for a Mexican!” Education solves nothing. White people will continue to be racist no matter how educated they are. So everyone who says we should “start a dialogue” or “debate how they’re wrong!” needs to get off their high horse and stop with that pseudo-intellectual bullshit. nazis are in Charlottesville. white supremacists are actively adding to their body count. there is. no. middle. ground.
reminder to:
straighten your back
go pee goddAMN IT STOP HOLDING IT
go take your meds if you need to
drink some water
go get a snack if you havent eaten in a while
maybe wander around the house/stretch a little if you’ve been sat at the computer a while (artists especially: sTRETCH THOSE WRISTS)
reply to that text/message from earlier you’d forgotten about
maybe send a nice lil message to someone having a bad day?
I just would like to thank everyone who ever reblogs this so that it somehow ends up back on my dash because I usually need the reminder (especially the drinking water one)

We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.

Y'all gonna get yourselves killed trying to play hero. Learn to defend yourself but some of y'all know damn well you would snap-freeze in an actual fight in which your opponent is armed and ready to kill and you aren’t. Because most combat training isn’t even about being able to fight, it’s training your instincts to resist the ‘flight’ part of fight or flight because believe me that’s what gets people’s ass best most of the time. Not being able to channel that adrenaline and control themselves. And you have to be able to think quickly in a situation where you are liable to fucking die.
I’ve been shot at and I’ve done combat training and I have friends who have too and y'all are really gonna get someone killed having them think taking a handful of classes makes them combat ready.
Muse and I were talking about this on twitter - you don’t have to take the “warrior” in SJW literally, and in fact you SHOULDN’T.
Better plan - aim to be a Social Justice Cleric. Find information on basic first aid, take a class if you can, find out common first aid items you can carry in a backpack or small bag. Be prepared to help people who are hurt instead of trying to get yourself killed.
Also white folks, keep these ideas in mind:
And for fucks sake, don’t agitate if you might get black and brown protesters in trouble.

the best kind of friendships are fierce lady friendships where you aggressively believe in each other, defend each other, and think the other deserves the world.
What is Emotional Abuse?
An emotionally abusive person may “dismiss your feelings and needs, expect you to perform humiliating or unpleasant tasks, manipulate you into feeling guilty for trivial things, belittle your outside support system or blame you for unfortunate circumstances in his or her life. Jealousy, possessiveness and mistrust characterize an emotionally abusive person”[1]. In summary, emotional abuse includes the following:
1. Acting as if a person has no value and worth; acting in ways that communicate that the person’s thoughts feelings and beliefs are stupid, don’t matter or should be ignored.
2. Calling the person names; putting them down; mocking, ridiculing, insulting or humiliating them, especially in public.
3. Controlling through fear and intimidation; coercing and terrorizing them; forcing them to witness violence or callousness; threatening to physically harm them, others they love, their animals or possessions; stalking them; threatening abandonment.
4. Isolating them from others, especially their friends and family; physically confining them; telling them how they should think, act, dress, what decisions they can make, who they can see and what they can do (limiting their freedom); controlling their financial affairs.
5. Using that person for your own advantage or gain; exploiting their rights; enticing or forcing another to behave in illegal ways (for example, selling drugs).
6. Stonewalling and ignoring another’s attempt to relate to and interact with them; deliberately emotionally detaching from a person in order to hurt them or “teach them a lesson”; refusing to communicate affection and warmth, or to meet their emotional and psychological needs.
