Faro di Macuti, Macuti Lighthouse, Beira

Costruito nel 1904, alto 29 metri, il Faro di Macuti è il tipico esempio della difficoltà di comprendere la realtà mozambicana al primo sguardo, e da solo difficilmente troverai una risposta. Immediatamente ti interroghi sull’utilità del Faro visto che ha un vecchio relitto di nave proprio davanti. Poi scopri che quello che è rimasto è poco in confronto a quel che era (basta guardare le foto su Google), che non è così vecchio e che...nel 1985 ce l’hanno messo lì di proposito per proteggere il Faro dall’erosione del mare!

Invece che il Faro a proteggere le navi dall’arenarsi, un relitto a proteggere il Faro: Benvenuti in Mozambico!

Built in 1904, 29 meters tall, this lighthouse is the typical Mozambican example of its complicated reality, that makes you wonder and wonder, but alone you’ll hardly find an answer. You easily get to doubt the lighthouse use, seen the huge shipwreck right in front - apparently not much is left compared with what there used to be if you check Google Images. Then you find out that it’s not so old, it beached there in 1985, and....on purpose, to protect the lighthouse from sand erosion! Instead of the Lighthouse protecting the boats from beaching, a beached shipwreck to protect the lighthouse: Welcome to Mozambique!
