âyou think i do not know when youâre close?â the vampire asked into the seemingly empty air. she had been sitting peacefully alone, watching the city move around her as twilight slipped into a dark inky night, taking an interest in watching the family in the apartment across the square make dinner. she could hear their laughs and see the love move between each person like it was a physical being and the connection they shared fascinated her. centuries of being alone made her want to destroy it.
âif you want to lurk, could you please do it from further away?â she continued, not giving her fledgling time to speak. truthfully he had not been her fledgling for decades, but she had never sired a vampire that had wanted to stay bound to her and all of them were now gone. gabriel had seemed to stick like glue and there was no way for her not to still think of him needing to be taught things. like the art of not getting caught. which was never going to have been his aim, he always wanted eridanusâ attention.
Gabriel grinned as he approached Eridanus, accepting the short stab of pride that came whenever she acknowledged his presence, even if most times it was just to scold him. Heâd take any type of her attention he could get. âOn the contrary, love, I enjoy that you know when Iâm close.â Of course he knew that part of the reason she could sense him was because he was a vampire and because he was her sired, but he couldnât help feeling that maybe sometimes, there was something more there, for both of them. Fondness, maybe, at least and he could definitely work with that.
He ignored her question that wasnât really a question at all and sat down beside her on the bench, choosing not to stare at her like he wanted but instead looking in the direction she was, at the family making dinner. People watching was something they figured out early on that they both liked to do and he figured that Eridanus liked it because they mostly did it in silence. He wondered what had caused her to stop and stare at this family so he turned to her, his head lolling as he leant it against the wall. He could ask the easy question, âWhat distracted you this time?â But that wasnât really his style with Eridanus, he liked pushing her buttons, âDo you miss it?â Although what the âitâ was, he wasnât really sure, but he was intrigued to find out the answer she would give.
