Shall/Will - simple future second verb (tu partiras ce soir - you will leave tonight)
Should - present conditional devoir (tu devrais partir - you should leave)
Would - present conditional second verb(j'aimerais partir - I would like to leave)
*this verb typically means being able to: "I can't speak French" would be translated as "I don't speak French" or "I don't know how to speak French", using pouvoir means you are physically unable to do so ie I can't run because my leg is broken.
While auxiliary verbs are the first half of compound tenses and moods, semi-auxiliary verbs are used with another verb left in the present infinitive form to express an influence of their meaning, tense, mood, or aspect - some are the equivalent of modal verbs, others are simply verbs of perception. When not followed by an infinitive verb, those are not considered semi-auxiliary anymore.
Stative verbs (to be, to remain, to feel) express a state rather than an action. They usually relate to thoughts, emotions, relationships, senses, states of being and measurements and cannot be used as the introduction of a gerund (je rentre en marchant but je suis en marchant*).
Impersonal verbs can only be conjugated in the masculine form of the third person singular: il doesn't refer to a person (il pleut - it's raining).

Hornblower is sooo funny. Not just Horatio but all of them. Yeah, you’re in your straight navy, surrounded by your straight sailing buddies, huh?
A beautiful French woman makes it clear that she desires you carnally, and lets you into her room while she sleeps. It’s expected of you by your fellow officers and underlings and by the very woman that you will bed her, and you don’t put the moves on her. What, because you respect her too much? Yeah.
Your best friend sacrifices his reputation as his final act of friendship for you before dying, your hand clasped in his, and you say, “it was an honor to have served with you,” and he responds, “and to have known you,” and dies the moment he gets the words out?
All of your frustrations with that damned army officer stem from the fact that he’s so disciplined and charming, and makes you call him, “Lord,” and when you two finally part ways he shares a knowing, pleading, heartbroken look with your long time lover best friend and says, “please look after him,” as though he is a wife knowing her husband will not make it through the war.
You propose to a woman who is your friend but that you do not love. Why? Could it be because you cannot conceive of a possible future in which you truly fall in love with a woman, therefore you might as well bestow the security of matrimony upon this poor girl?
You cannot eat and vomit on your wedding day, shaking like a leaf and pale as a sheet. Your first Lieutenant and best friend sits beside you in the church, and you say, “I suppose you think this is a bad time to get married,” while he stares at you, longingly, looking terribly concerned at the decision you have made, and answers, “in my opinion, Sir, there is never a good time to get married.”
Boys, PLEASE. Release your shame and explore each other’s bodies! I beg of you!

I am the vampire Madeleine Eparvier. And my immortal companion is Claudia. My coven is Claudia.
I was reading Assassin’s quest by Robin Hobb and the weirdest scene I’ve ever read was when Verity put his consciousness into Fitz’s body so that he could sleep with his wife one last time. Like?? That was so weird. And later when Kettricken gives birth to ‘verity’s son’ is???? Because it’s not Verity’s son but Fitz’s. Verity put his consciousness into Fitz’s body not his DNA so the ‘True King’ of the realm isn’t even the true king. If they did a DNA test on Kettricken’s son, he’d have Fitz’s DNA. So the whole quest to restore the throne to a TRUE farseer is useless since the king is the bastard son of a bastard son.
I’m not sure if you’ve read the other books, but to be fair it is later shown that deep emotional connections and Skill links to other people can produce children who were created by the body of one of them, but share the genetic heritage of both (as in, three parents).
The most terrifying part of having memory issues is when you can feel something from 5 seconds ago be thrown out the window and there's an empty hole where it once was. You remember that you forgot something.
this is your gentle reminder to stop fighting against your adhd and instead structure your life around it
buy a pack of chapsticks and put one in the pocket of all of your coats and jackets because you always forget to bring one and chapped lips is sensory hell
leave important things where you can see them. if they go in a box or a drawer you will forget they exist
put any appointments or deadlines in your phone calendar As Soon As you get them. set a reminder for a week before, a day before, an hour before, as many as you need as often as you need them.
when that little voice in your head says "i dont need to write that down, ill remember it" that is the devil talking!!! write it down anyway!!
plan for down time. have a few hours at the end of every day to just do fun stuff like engage in your hyperfixations. even if you didnt get all of your work done that day, have the rest anyway. you probably spent the whole day beating yourself up for not doing what you Should be doing, so you still need the break.
if you never eat vegetables because its too much effort to chop and cook them, get the frozen or canned shit. it doesnt go off for ages and you just have to microwave it. theres no point buying fresh vegetables if they just keep going off and being left to rot in the bottom of your fridge
if you struggle to decide what to have for dinner every day, take the decision out of it. choose a set of meals and eat those on rotation until you get sick of them, then choose some new ones and do it again.
its not stupid if it works! our brains literally have a chemical deficiency. you are allowed to accommodate yourself. go forth and stop making your life more difficult than it has to be because "this shouldn't be this hard". it is hard, so make it easier.
I’m realising that to some extent I do almost all of this (coping with life quite well but pretty certain I have ADHD or AuDHD):
- one moisturiser in the bathroom, one in my room, one lip balm in my room, one in my bag, etc
- I NEED to remember to take something to work in the morning? Either explicitly told to take it by the schedule that Guides Me Like The North Star (still might forget to look at it) or it’s next to the front door or on the bread board I’ll use for breakfast
- I distract myself from other tasks 100% willingly to put dates in my calendar/schedule note, because I WILL forget otherwise
- I have accepted I will never remember anything that isn’t written down, I do not trust that voice 🙏
- actually I don’t plan the downtime all the time. Maybe I should but I feel like getting out of study-brain mode can be dangerous for me at times like this
- I only get fresh vegetables if I’ll eat them that night (I won’t, I have thrown out so much broccolini) or if I’m going to meal prep them into easy meals for the week
- I eat maybe 5-6 different meals on repeat every week and thanks to the suspected ‘tism, I don’t get sick of them 😃 if I had to actually cook for every meal instead of just meal prepping components I would eat nothing but oven food
Huh. Have I just managed to compensate for my sieve brain independently? Kinda proud of me but also it was probably the (likely) autistic need for routine and order to led to it lol
Good luck Swift 🫡

The average person in the six duchies hits rock bottom 3 times a year factoid is actually just a statistical error. The average person hits rock bottom 0 times a year. Fitzchivalry Farseer, hits rock bottom everyday, is an outlier and should not have been counted
whenever I see art of baby fitz I throw up and black out he’s so small. such a baby. my son. my boy. be good. be wise.
I’m not a huge fan of the official rote art most of the time because of the way they draw fitz but this one in particular makes me want to weep whenever I see it
how could you look at this baby playing with some puppies on the floor and go yeah he’s gonna make the perfect killing machine
LIKE LOOK AT HIS NERVOUS LITTLE FEETSIES
three apples tall… abandoned by his mothers family… doesn’t even have a name… baby fitz I’m your mother now get behind me
Why did Fitz's Grandfather give him up?
I am rereading Assassin's Apprentice (because I just finished Assassin's Fate last week and can't move on), and something that has been bugging me is, why did Fitz's grandfather give him up? We see in the later books that having a bastard child doesn't seem to be the life ruining prospect I assumed it to be when I first read Assassin's Apprentice. Lots of characters are bastards, especially in the Fitz and the Fool trilogy, and while they may not have happy childhoods, they were still raised by one of their parents (or so they thought). So why was Fitz's mother allowed to raise him for 6 years and only to have him ripped away by her own father? While Chivalry might have known about his son, the crown didn't, so there is no reason to believe it was for political purpose. And his Grandfather says "I've enough to tend to of my own, what with my woman getting on in years, and this one's mother to keep and feed." Wouldn't a strong and growing young boy be the perfect thing an aging Shepard would need to help on his farm? Fitz recalls in later books helping with sheep (Thanks @samw1se for the reminder). If he was already helping his mother, why would his Grandfather suddenly send him away?
Omg I remember being confused by that scene. Makes sense now + hurts my heart yay
"Did I have a fit last night?" A small silence preceded his words. He kept his voice casual. "A small one, perhaps. You tossed your head about and trembled for a time in your sleep. I held you still. It passed." He did not want to speak of it any more than I did.
