"I live in a red state my vote doesn't ma-"
If your vote didn't matter they wouldn't try so hard to make it harder to vote in red states. Voting in red states can turn them into swing states like Georgia, Ohio, and Arizona. And voting in blue states can keep them from becoming swing states.
California used to be Red. Texas was Blue long ago. Florida was once a swing state. Obama took Indiana but it's gone redder since. Ten years ago Arizona and Georgia going blue was unthinkable.
Things change and we can make them change.
And that's before getting into more local elections. Turning cities blue, the state legislature.
Red states have flipped blue in recent years at those levels too.
Because people vote, and if we vote in high enough numbers we can turn a tight election into a walk in the park. If we vote in high enough numbers, we can turn a loss into a win. So many good things have happened in states where someone won by like 100 votes. (arizona is one)
If you live in the USA and are able to vote, do it. You never know when your vote may be the one that makes a difference in not only your state, but the election as a whole
I’m going to be honest - I don’t actually know how to properly put into words the anger that I have felt towards the British Conservative Party’s attitudes towards trans people. The British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, has said some awful things about how he feels that he has been “bullied” into believing that people can “change their sex”. This statement alone proves how uneducated he is on this topic.
It has been established that there is a difference between sex and gender. Sex is what people are assigned at birth, whereas gender is the way that people identify and present themselves as. The idea that Rishi Sunak does not even understand this concept shows that he should not be discussing this topic, let alone making decisions regarding it. As a world leader it is his job to educate himself of matters such as this, which he clearly has not. The truth is that the Conservative Party does not care about issues that do not affect them - they are focusing on what will get them more votes in the next election. Sunak has seen this moral panic surrounding trans individuals in Britain and had chosen to focus on adhering to that rather than discussing the plans, such as Net Zero and HS2, which have fallen apart under his leadership.
Trans people are not the issue, they are simply the scapegoat that the Conservatives are using to distract from their own failings.
The reality is, anywhere you are in the world, coming out as gay, trans, bisexual etc is dangerous. Everywhere we go, there is likely to be at least one person that wants to hurt us solely for who we are. And the reality is, the government isn’t likely to do anything about it. They are more focused on keeping their power through any means necessary. They are more focused on helping themselves instead of helping those who actually need it.
The reality is, if we want to live in a world where coming out isn’t dangerous, then we are going to have to fight for that world.
This post will be focusing on America, because I have seen the amount of people talking about this begin to quiet down:
It is currently looking likely that the topic of transgender rights in the USA will be highlighted in the 2024 Presidential Elections. This means that these conversations will bring to light some of the opinions that leading politicians have in regards to basic human rights of around 1.6 million people in the US.
This means that the 2024 election could determine how safe it is for 1.6 million people to stay in the country. States like Florida are already beginning to remove the rights of transgender and non binary people, and the situation will only grow worse if America’s next president chooses to continue with the persecution of these people.
If you are old enough to vote in this next election, then I implore you to do so, as it may just save the lives of 1.6 million people living in your country.

As I’m sure most people in the UK are aware, Liz Truss has now been voted in as the new Conservative Leader, which makes her our current Prime Minister.
Liz Truss has been vocal on her opinions of trans individuals, particularly trans women, who she claims are not women. Although she has voted for LGBT rights, Liz Truss has repeatedly refused to answer any questions about her opinions on transphobia.
Currently in the UK the government does not believe that allowing trans women in women-only spaces is in accordance to the law. The British government believes that allowing trans women into places, such as rape crisis centres and domestic abuse shelter, aimed towards protecting all women, goes against the laws put in place and that it puts the legitimate aim of these spaces at risk.
This can be used as evidence that the government does not see trans individuals as the gender they identify as and they instead only view them as the gender that they were assigned to at birth.
